Clean Acoustic Guitar Tones with Quad Cortex

PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/tominboston

After playing through a fellow guitarists Quad Cortex a few months back, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about finally getting one for myself. I finally did and with a little tweaking and testing, I’ve come up with some acoustic guitar tones that I’m really happy with. I’m just getting started with it, but I’m so excited to see what else the QC will do for my direct acoustic tone.

  • Hey friends. I recently picked up a Quad Cortex and wanted to walk through how I'm using it for acoustic guitar! I'm still doing a lot of tweaking but I wanted to begin by finding a baseline tone for my pickups. I don't see a ton of talk about how QC operates with acoustic so I thought I'd put my voice in the mix. Hope you guys enjoy.

  • BRO I was pulling my hair out trying to revise my touring pedalboard before I was just told to go for a QC. Thanks so much for this video! Definitely a tonne of help!

  • Just saw Petteri Sariola live, and got to talk to him! He showed me his rig and it was basically all just Quad Cortex! And he sounded glorious!

Got mine a few days ago, just getting to know the thing! So much exploring to do and so little time! I’m really digging how you can use the usb-port to have it as an interface, you can use all kinds of routing options!

  • Ayo Tom!
Quick question. What baritone strings do you use? Ive been using elixir nano coated strings but I think the coating is making it sound dull.

Any suggestions you have would be super appreciated!????

  • fantastic stuff man!

I have had mine for years now and I love it. I recently watched a video called "Acoustic Guitar Preset for the Quad Cortex" by the youtube channel davlav Music and he manages to get fantastic tone out of his QC on acoustic that really helped me out. He turns the gain way up on the input, which I think is what I was missing when I was trying to find a good acoustic tone myself.

Definitely recommend checking out his video

  • You are amazing of course, but if I was gonna give some feedback, I think the low end sounds quite muddy. Really hard to distinguish notes down there.

  • Hi Tom,

You really do get a great sound with the QC!
Fun fact: I also have a Furch acoustic guitar, and a golden Performance 3 Capo and a Quad Cortex πŸ˜€
Do you mind sharing your preset on the Cortex Cloud?

    Cheers Winnie

  • I love the Fishman Pickup with dual output. Works so good in a modeller like Helix and QC. Seperate EQ for mic and strings. Also with piezzo and putting a guitar IR in the chain to make it more "natural". Very curious to see you do a Deep dive with a triple output guitar. Piezzo, sound hole and mic. Including phase control. Also Mike Dawes has an interesting QC set up now. Cheers! MCMartyV

  • I also wanted to buy a quadcortex when i saw Petteri doing the demo about simulate OC5 on the Quad ! I think Quad is very good for acoustic guitarist , because of routing possibilities and even splitting signals as you did for treat separately a mic and a magnetic ! Very cool man ! Great job on your tone !

  • I know batshit about guitar playing, but I do love to hear about the gadgets being used and what they're capable of. Thanks for sharing Tom! If you have any other gear that you use and haven't made a video about them, I'd def watch.
