If we did not know (or dont care) which is spruse or cedar then most people mught say spruse sounds better.
Cedar for me, but both sound great.
I really love the brightness of the spruce and the fact it will open up over time.
Both is magical. Yet, I like spruce more. Had Cedar, sold it, as something was always missing.

Cedar is warm and sweet….Spruce is clear and concise. Show a big difference to a train ear…i got both guitars and they both sound great depending on the song
I prefer the crispness of the spruce..I can always play it softer if I want to get the deeper Cedar tone
I love them both.
I'd love to hear a comparison between old spruce vs new, I know it's a difficult request, to find very similar model made at different times.
Its like comparing maple telecaster to mahagony les paul. Both lovely in their own way.
I would say the spruce is clearer, with better note separation, while the cedar is a warmer, with more depth.
I personally am drawn to the spruce because it states each note a little more clearly, and has a liveliness makes me feel like the whole tune is coming through really well.
The cedar, to me, allows the notes to sort of flow into each other, causing a little bit of a slight “muddy” feel. It’s only slight though, and it does have a warming effect.
However, I wouldn’t rank one higher than the other, because it really boils down to personal tone and playing style preferences.
For instance, the spruce would probably allow for playing a bit faster tunes without jumbling notes together, while the cedar would make slower tunes flow a little nicer.
These is only my opinions though.
The cedar is sweeter.
It's not a fear comparative, cedar top is ready to use, spruce needs time but I wouldn't never come back to cedar.

Очень мне нравится звучание ели. Ель звучит солнечно прозрачно, и представляешь себе солнечный день, чистый хрустальный звук. Кедр это звучание как будто бы в туманное раннее утро, приглушённо, тише… Это на вкус каждого. Мне нравится солнечное хрустальное утро и это ель. ????

For me the less ‘muddier’ therefore SPRUCE for my personal preference. That said and done some tunes I may opt for the CEDAR. Lovely playing!

I believe if you try to play with the right hand as warm as possible on a spruce you can have both the brightness and the warm sound. What do you thing? For example, for the low strings on a spruce I always make apoyando thumb when possible. Warmer and more round sound.
Cedar is so soft. Even with careful playing it gets marked. Some people like that kind of thing. Not me.

I love my spruce top Hanika guitar, but cedar top guitars are much more beautiful in terms of the sound and the looks.
I will definitely get myself a cedar top one day.

Spruce is a touch too bright, almost like a well miked guitar to a point it almost sounds like an electric nylon strings, nonetheless very beautiful sound. Cedar is just a true classic tone.
