A few people have more mixed feelings about the gypsy guitar — which I tend to agree with. These guitars have a very specific EQ profile: a lot of treble, not much bass, and a sharp, percussive attack that makes them harder to mic properly. Whatever the mic I’ve tried, the same problems occurred. Microphone companies don’t tailor their frequency response for gypsy guitars; they typically design around flat-top steel-strings or classical guitars, which have a more balanced EQ curve. But gypsy guitars are a different beast — they have such a distinctive tonal character that they would really need a dedicated microphone with a unique EQ profile. I guess the best solution for now is to pair the mic with a good EQ, or combine it with another source, like a transducer or piezo, that can help bring back the missing frequencies.
Hard to know for sure from a video demo, but are the strings coming through te mic at equal volume levels? The D string, which is the closest to the mic sounds the loudest, and the high E string seems lower level. The high E string appears to be about twice the distance from the mic compared to the D string, so maybe the different levels is because of the different distance, and that would make sens, right?
Fantastic tone, I'm going to get one for my new Dawina acoustic guitar. Question, have you had problems with feedback on stage? If so, how did you manage it.
does it tend to feedback on the stage?
It's a pity it doesn't have 2 separate mics for stereo.
I purchased the Nv tone swan external. Thee external has an xlr & requires 48v phantom power. If I had to do it over, I’d bought the internal. I bought the external thinking I could try it on several guitars. I didn’t understand you could plug the internal in while it was dangling like the external. I came here to ask what preamp you’re using… thee external squeals fiercely. I feel a mic preamp is necessary. Suggestions?
Came for the pickup, moved by the playing.
Thank you… Antoine.
Super!!!!!!!!
May I ask who made your 7 string? Great musicianship❤
Buyer Beware.
I bought an NV Tone pickup on the basis of Antoine's recommendation because he is a great musician and my experience is making purchases of equipment on the basis of great musicians has been highly rewarding, because great musicians have great integrity.
The NV Tone has been an disastrous exception. To be clear NV Tone is a Ukrainian company and I fully support Ukraine's defense of their nation against putin's criminal imperialist war of aggression.
For a little background, I have been playing guitar for more than half a century. I have a professional grade workshop to repair, modify and build guitars and basses and amplifiers. I have replaced many pickups and own (5) 12 Bar blues pickups all of which work flawlessly and are some of the best sounding pickups I have ever heard.
I received the NV Tone and immediately installed it…silence. I tried to trouble shoot, changing cables, all of which was a waste of time. After 19 emails with NV Tone where they wasted my time and tried to place the onus of their accountability on me, they finally agreed to a refund, which I suggested in the first email but then told me that they could only process the refund through paypal which is a legalized criminal enterprise. I had 2 previous transactions with them, but was ripped off on both so naturally I declined.
NV Tone finally decided to send me a replacement with assurances they tested it before sending. Dead Silence again.
I paid for a piece of equipment that is plug and play and all I received was 2 more projects.
As I said: Buyer Beware.
C'est super beau ce que tu fais! Est ce que tu as remarqué une modification/ détérioration du son acoustique dans tes guitares une fois le micro installé? En tout cas bravo pour ton jeu à la guitare, c'est super beau!!!
04:08 cool rendetion ????
I don’t hand out compliments readily…I’m not easy to impress as I consider myself a nimble guitar player. But you are a special talent, easily recognized.
Bonjour Antoine, merci pour cette présentation intéressante. Comment compareriez-vous le mic avec un dpa ? Merci
Thanks!
Gracias por compartir ????????????????????????
I remember watching him a few years back. Love his progression. True unique talent.
your music and playing is so beautiful! Do you see any way to use it in an Archtop without drilling holes?
