Expensive vs. Cheap Taylor Guitars | PS14ce vs. 114e

Today Cooper is back with another Cheap vs. Expensive comparison. We’re taking a look at an extravagant Presentation Series Taylor up against the more affordable (and also great) 114e. Both of these guitars are Grand Auditorium body styles, with a stark contrast of tonewoods, aesthetics, and especially, price! At around $10,000, does this PS14ce hold its weight? At $799, does this 114e exceed expectations? Check out the demos and let us know what you think!

  • “Dude, you can wail!” Beautiful playing. Thanks for this video. I’m considering a 114e and this is a great explanation.

  • Cooper is the living proof that you can save a lot of money just by playing as awesome as he does. 99% artist, 1% material ;-).

  • If you don't have 2300 for and 810 I've bought used 810s for 1k. If I'm looking at a 1 series for 799 I'd spend 2 or 3 more and find a used 810. Just a thought.

  • I’m sure the expensive one is a fantastic guitar but I’m just not into all of the shiny adornments, there’s too much of it for taste. I prefer a simpler look so the cheaper guitar is more to my taste. It’s not that I’m against expensive guitars, I suppose my dream Taylor would probably lie somewhere between these two guitars, something a bit more special than the 114 but not as highly adorned as the expensive one

  • For the price you can’t beat a big baby. I would have got it without a pick guard for a discount. They sound pretty good too.

  • I mean, yeah, the PS14e absolutely sounded better… Did it sound 10X better? No. Not even close. I think if I were going to get an expensive Taylor, it'd be something in the 800-series, or maybe even the 600-series. I heard a 612ce that sounded AMAZING!

  • Being a seasoned player songwriter etc.. there is hardly NO difference in either guitar…
Nothing but bells n whistles on the 10 grand guitar,id easily choose the 114e non cutaway version.
I mean Seriously not nothing too special in tone difference betwixt the 2 guitars, its simply Taylor,in its well crafted glory!!!
Id be very happy with either one,INDEEDS!!! Peace.
    Thanks btw,i bought the 114e.

  • Any chance there's tabs for your fingerstyle song? Love it, and I'm not good enough to watch someone play and copy it (yet).

  • Personally, I like the sound of guitars without varnish. To my ears, if there is no varnish, the wood can breath better. They don't make high quality guitars without varnish, so I'm very happy with my 214. It's been built perfectly and did not need any adjustmenst on unboxing.

  • I have a special issue 812CE with a Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Sitka top. I love it. Sounds wonderful. Probably 10 years old (maybe 8). Really nice. The 114e sounds really good. The PS14ce is beautiful.

  • My $2k Taylor is as good as a high end Taylor to me. It is a beautiful guitar a 214 ce koa and I love it.
