Intermediate / Advanced Bass Guitar Left Hand Exercise
A quick technique exercise for your left hand. The idea is to use random combinations of the fingers on your left hand in order to get you more comfortable physically when playing outside of the same old patterns.
I use an app to generate random number sets (I use a different set per each string) and work my way across the strings and then all the way up the neck one fret at a time, and then back down.
For an extra challenge, try skipping strings. e.g, play a pattern on the E string, then D, then A, then G, etc.
Remember to start as slow as you need to in order to really focus on making sure your technique is spot on. Then work it up to speed REAL SLOW. You can generate new sets and start the process again if you get too comfortable.

Yes finger permutations are really good for coordination and building finger strength and speed.
I normally start my practice by warming up with them every day but that's a good idea using them in a random way.
I normally do them in sequence starting with all the first finger permutations all the way through to the fourth finger permutations.
