Great lesson and much appreciated. I'm new to neo soul and I'm trying to separate it from other styles particularly jazz. In general, is neo-soul jazz style chording, but with lots of embellishes such as arpeggios, slides, hammer ons/offs and plucking individual strings that make up a chord? I'm sure it's much more than that, but I'm starting from the very beginning here. Forgive my naiveness, but just trying to get a grasp of neo soul as I delve deeper into it.
i know this ain't what this video is about, but your voice sounds so good ???? do you sing?
Nice job great lesson thank you
Thanks. Just an appreciative listener of music. Now i know parts of what neosoul is supposed to sound like???????? ????
Had a good read on all the comments. And with some of you, Never Judge a book by it’s cover especially when it comes to Soul. Apart from his sexy voice ???????? this man would wipe a lot of you guys all over the floor & back when it comes to ability & perfection, and that’s just with NEO let alone any other style! Believe me! I wouldn’t want to turn up to a show down against him. Liverpool or not he can play!
By the way nice work bro!
Halfway through I realized this wasn’t Guthrie Govan, but by then I was too invested
more haha
Your chords in the beginning are Neo Soul, but you failed to demonstrate those flourishes in a rhythmic context at all in the rest of the video. You just play Funk/Blues/Jazz rhythms. Clearly click bait.
i comment everywhere 😉
nice lesson – well explained.
Dude speaks in B1
This guy is so versatile. Where does he find the time to master different styles? ????????????????

There we go. I’ve just realised I’ve been playing “Neo soul“ for the last 25 years. I always thought it was called “Jimi Hendrix“ or some “ancient cat“ called “Curtis Mayfield“. I guess I should just get a life and listen to real neo soul makers not these fakers I’ve been listening to all these years!????????????
Jack Gardiner is a beast
