Rig Rundown: Chelsea Grin
Full Rig Details: https://bit.ly/ChelseaGrinRR
Death metal is a genre built on precision and power. Chelsea Grin’s articulate picking and gut-rattling riffs are its foundation. But thanks to a rotating cast of ripping guitarists (including Rig Rundown alumnus Jason Richardson), their five albums have shown subtle brick-and-mortar flair by incorporating elements of djent, metalcore, doom, black metal, and even post-hardcore. The current lead guitar chair has been filled by Stephen Rutishauser since 2015. His input has given their chaotic sound a more meticulous gnarl and complex rhythmic density that binds discord and darkened melodies.
Hours before Chelsea Grin’s rare club gig at Nashville’s the End, the gruesomely heavy guitarist invited PG’s Chris Kies onstage to talk gear. In this RR, the band’s face-melter details the sparkle-covered Petrucci signatures that he carries on tour and breaks down the dialed-in digital patches that color their brutal barrage.

Absolute killer tone. Dude is a monster at what he do .
the sparkles are my favorite.
Tone woods a myth
Anyone who says holding a multi scale is natural, has never really held or played a multi scale. It is the most unnatural feeling your fingers don’t move that way.
Hes got some expensive guitar tastes. And those guitars are built to last. Wood dont matter when you got that much gain and distortion in your channel. But whatevs.
He forgot to add they have a sound guy for their tours. So jealous.
Such a great musician ????
Why not any love for the bassist? Would have really loved to hear how setup especially for his drop E stuff
CG best Deathcore band. Saw them in 2016 open for Attila and Emmure. All 3 bands were amazing but the wall of sound CG had was absolutely unmatched. I believe it was 3 guitarists all playing 7 strings and the bassist had a 5 string. Alex was sounding really good and the whole band was so tight. 10/10 Moment for me.
From just a fill in guitarist to the only guitarist left. I know Speave is good guitarist.
I cannot buy into tonewoods when there is that much gain coupled with all the other variables. Tonewood was essentially debunked by Jim Lill in his video, "Tested: Where Does The Tone Come From In An Electric Guitar?"
That is one filthy guitar tone
This moron goes into nonsense about woods and tones only to use a modeller LOL it’s deathcore bro, grow up
stephen the best deathcore guitarist in my opinion????????
Hi.. anyone knows how many xlr output he using into the FOH Mixer?
I think the rig rundowns are dead. everyone and their mother are using Axe fx or kemper.
Sounds like ass.
In the magazine it states the Aristides is in Drop B – but in the video it sounds like he says Drop D – did he really mean Drop E a la Tosin Abasi?
I’ll probably get a lot of hate, but tone wood honestly does not play a big part in tone. Tone woods create exactly 3% of a tone, and the difference is barely audible.
Man starts off the review with my Damnation a classic
I love these vids. A great insight into guitar tones. I freakin love cobalt strings. They don't seem to last as long, but man their tones are incredible.
Even i dont know bout guitars i had fun watching this 00000101000
muy buena entrevista valiosa para los amantes del deathcore!!!
There are so many haters in these comments talking about how bad the tone is and whatnot as if they have any room to talk when he’s the one playing guitar for a living ???? and if you listen to the tone in the context of the full mix, it makes perfect sense why it’s such a high gain tone
John Petrucci could be proud of his approach for Chelsea Grin.
