J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster Demo/Review with a Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp
i just put out a new record that uses this guitar a bunch. listen here: https://shopping.bandcamp.com/
video review/demo of a Fender J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster.
Here it is: J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster. Remember in the 90s when everyone was afraid of selling out? I guess those days are over. J Mascis was just on Saturday Night Live playing this guitar last week. Who’da thunk that would have ever happened? Had GG Allin lived would he be on Charlie Rose? Probably more like Marc Maron’s show. Let’s get to the guitar.
This is such an awesome guitar. It is SOLID. It does not feel like cheap Squier junk. The level of materials, construction and finish coming from modern Fenders now adays is a game changer. This is a REAL GUITAR for an amazing price. I don’t think for the money you can get more guitar.
It’s got a sweet low action and is set up with 13s. Real beefy strings for real beefy tone. It feels super solid in your hands.

The pick guard is awesome
Rock on, nice playing. Ya, I picked up one, they are going discontinued. It is a nice guitar and the flexibility of sounds is great. Nice entertaining video; very natural and fun presentation.
Sounds like Ferris Buehler- but Ferris likes anodized gold pickguards, Jazzmaster vibratos, cats, and signature guitars- especially J. Mascis.
sweet riffs and sounds! (watching because i'm about to buy one of these)
The switches are not a big mystery.
The goal with this design was that, by flipping the top switch put’s you in the “Rhythm” mode for an on the fly “preset” independent from the lower settings.
The top Rhythm/Lead Switch also can become a quick kill switch with the top volume turned to zero and flipping the top switch up and down.
lol dont want a guitar made in someone elses name 😉 ok dickhead
I've gotta get one of those !!
just ordered one so thanks for the review
lol ….les paul is signiture guitar……
I dont usually comment on reviews/demos but this one is perfect, thanks man!
I was thinking on upgrading from a squier telecaster to a player jazzmaster, and this review just made my decision. PD thanks for not playing blues haha
I dig this Pick guard totally
J Mascis is a God lol bow down
Buy some strap locks mate! 😉
Hey dude do you edend up moding it ?
I like that style you're playing ????
The pick guard is identical to the original Jazzmaster’s. Anodized aluminum. This was only on mid ‘58 to mid ‘59, when it was replaced by the now played out (but still nice looking) tortoise guard. I think its refreshing to see the old style. Especially on an axe this affordable.
dude can you contact me please on fb @ larry lynch … i have so much question to ask ; and i'm also a singer songwritter from France i'd be so please if you d give me 5 min of your time
i'm gettin' this funkah'…thanks, broski.
per the fender website , it actually comes with 10-46s not 8s
great guitar. i love the jumbo frets
My kind of guitar player..
Cool review
Great sound, and points for honesty!
How do you play with your strap so low damn
I dig this guitar, maybe my christmas present.
Can I use the riffs from 7:07 for a song please?
this is probably the best demo of this guitar, the cat just wanted to try the guitar.
