I’m Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I’ve learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There’s reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We’ve covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you’ve wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!

I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer’s Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

  • All Hail Glenn Fricker of House Canada, First of His Name, Destroyer of Bass Players' Feelings, Enemy of Old Strings, Fearless Reviewer of Gear, Keeper of Crom's Balls, and Breaker of Sub-par Amplifiers.

Bet you can't fit all that on a shirt with a giant maple leaf!

  • It’s actually a neat, convenient, functional and very versitile practice amp. You can easily dial in some really good sounds. I have a few big tube amps that sound great but need to be at a certain volume and require a pedal board for a range of sounds. Most of the time I just play through this little beauty and I can be nice and quiet or I can disturb the neighbours. It’s a goal winner.

  • The point is not to put that specific marshall amp model down, but to actually point out the with that specific price range, there are bunch of options out there that does better or does the same thing with less price

  • Ich denke das man für den Preis, einen amp bekommt der vielseitig ist und für Zuhause mehr als reicht ???? und mehr will der Code 25 auch nicht sein

  • damn this video and its comment are actually kinda scary and borderline fetishistic behavior, its like if i went to your home with my million dollar lambo and dissed your perfectly fine car, of course the amp isnt going to sound like your rigs that costs thousands of dollars, its a bedroom amp for people on a budget that want to play their guitar and still have some variety of sounds to play with, i don't think anyone is going to use that to produce an professional studio album or to play to an arena, wtf is wrong with you guys chill down

  • A code 25 was my first ever guitar amp. It really put me off playing guitar to the point I just did not enjoy it. I remember the day my boss katana mk2 50w turned up. I just picked up my guitar and the noise of my fingers touching the strings immediately grabbed my attention. I began taping them and really gently moving them, smiling at how responsive it was ???? My guitar world opened up that day, I couldn't sell my code quick enough!

    ???? you Marshall!

  • Thanks for the review, I can't disagree with it, I had it as my first amp for around two years and I couldn't understand why it sounded so bad and I didn't know if I was doing something wrong. Now I have an other one, cheaper, better, simplier and perfect for my needs, the Code 25 is just horrible compared to it… I know it's for beginners but all the parameters with pre-amp, amp, power etc is just not something you want to put on a begginer amp. And I didn't really understand those parameters because English is not my first language and also because the amps name were unknown to me as a begginer. So it's not practical for a begginer, sounds horrible for a intermediate player and for recordings.
I wouldn't recommand it, doesn't even sound that loud to be honest. Its just enough for a gentle drummer…

  • Loved the unboxing video at the end, but isn't there someone you hate enough to give it away to?

  • You could donate it to someone who needs an amp instead of destroying it.

  • man some kid wouldve loved to have had that no matter how crappy it is compareed to older marshalls but its something. selfish clout chasers are ruining this world. your review sucks too

  • Glens "special" . Doesn't really know how to set up an amp.i get a great sound from it.

  • I heard that vibration in the cabinet when playing low end distortion. Unless it was vibrating something else
I've hooked up more speakers to amps that didn't have the extra jack – but it involves splitting off the existing connectors… I'm still watching so I may change my mind about the sound

  • I don't see the point of this review? It's a cheap 25w modelling amp, designed for home practice. No one is taking it seriously as a means for recording professional level sounds. It's almost like you'd buy a Corolla then moan about how it's terrible around a race track…

  • I mean if a chef said McDonalds is ass why would I disagree? Still gonna eat dat shit for tha price ????

  • Out of curiosity, what would the Code Amps sound like with a bit of surgery? If we put a Celestion Vintage 30 in a Code 50 (just to make the watts more align) and tweaked the EQ and Presets etc… IE, can a FrankenCode be made into a really good amp?

  • I don’t know I have high end guitars and amps, but I just can’t stand these youtubers throwing sh#t on beginner stuff, I mean who cares? Why are these channels even popping up? Btw these are much better gear that I started with back then.

  • C'mon! It's not that bad. I've got one and after a bit of faffing around, I got it to sound good. Having said that, I'm trying to sell mine now. I just can't be bothered with all the endless pissing around with app etc to get a sound I like. I'm aiming for an amp that is knob control only.

  • Next time donate the equipment to a school or a kid rather than some lame sledgehammer "look how much I hate this gear because I'm so metal" pissaround

  • Turning off the cab sim and get rid of the shitty stock speaker, and replace it for for a celestion speaker (or any other brand you like) does improve the sound.
