Guitar Review – Harley Benton L450 Plus (Les Paul Clone)

http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html?offid=1&affid=166

Howdy guitar addicts and insomniacs. Here’s another gem from Harley Benton. It’s a faithful Les Paul clone for about $150US! It’s rather sweet and I don’t think I have to swap anything on it. Check it out!

  • Nice looking guitar, muddy pups ????. If the pups is all that needs swapping out, still a good deal then.

  • Hey Nick, cool review. But, Epiphone has a dedicated production facility now in China.  Only Epi's are built there. I'm sure a lot of the hardware is identical, though. Nice little guitar, and for only $150 !?!?! I'll buy two, thanks!

  • I know this video is 3 years old, but I was surprised when I saw the Oscar Schmidt logo on a Harley Benton head stock – odd ..

  • Great review on a sweet axe from Harley Benton. I have a DC580 and love it. Got a great guitar there.????????????⚡️⚡️

  • Ha, I got the same guitar, but it's having the joint at the headstock! Like your Gold top! Good video.

  • Is it me or every time Nick starts to “solo”, he goes into a “poker face” that can only be described as a guy taking a dump? ????????????????

  • are you absolutely certain these are made in the same factory as the epis, from what I've researched epiphone have their own factory now making ONLY epiphone guitars. My experience with recent models 2014 is very very good.

  • sorry nick, whats the difference between the sc450 plus and the sc-500? thanks for the info you can give me i am considering buying one!! love ur videos i have recently suscribe and liked a bunch of them!!

  • Just got the same model, but new one with sharp tip horn, coil splitting and a nicer headstock shape. Very good guitar just the nut is very poorly done (cut uneven and too deep). Frets are surprisingly good level. To my ear sound is very good if You low down pickups a bit

  • Im planning on buying a guitar, cant decide between this one and an epiphone les paul special II, since its my first guitar ever, guidance would help

  • I have a Jay Turser Les Paul, it has the same inlay sticker on the headstock. I guess they're probably made in the same factory. I licked the factory pickups, but I got a good deal on some emg hz pickups, sounds amazing.

  • I have the same guitar. Going to swap the Alnico 5 magnets for Alnico 2's, just the magnets not the pups. If you're interested I'l give you a review on that. I'm not too good on video's so that probably won't happen but I'm thinking of a before/after sound sample.

  • Dave they are nice. My Chibson was made in 2015, it is made so close to perfect. Point is they are getting better each day. It is far above my buddies 2009 and any Epiphone. These are in that same bunch. Epiphone Special Editions are tops, they keep an eye on that work. What replacement pick up do you recommend for these Chinese guitars? Thank you Dave, I enjoy your videos! Kev.

  • I found my son an SX Les Paul Custom copy about a year ago at a pawn shop for a good price and ut came with the dime pots so we just put come CTS pots, switch craft jack and an All Parts pickup selector and it made a big difference, we haven't even changed out the pickup's and i don't know if we need to with the upgrade. Ee also switched to D'addario XL 11-49 and it has a nice warm tone. I also just traded my Epiphone sg 400 61' for a Agile 2000 and i am glad i did because this puppy is nice. I am thinking of ordering one if the HB Tele's because my son plays praise and worship and he wants that sparkly tele sound that you can't get from a LP

  • Just bought one of these based on your review and those of a certain German!! – absolutely astonished at the quality of the finish, the service from Thomann and the sound and feel of the guitar. Better looking and of better quality than the Epiphones and delivered to Scotland from Germany for £125. My son-in-law was gobsmacked when I told him the price!! – thanks Nick!

  • Nice. Don't understand why people buy the Chinese fakes when they could buy this or a epi. I have a les Paul tribute plus awesome guitars.

  • Hi Nick. I wonder what kind of finish this one has. Is it Honey Burst or Lemon? By the way; your reviews are great!

  • Hello Nick. I didn't quite understand what you said at the end about choosing from all the variants. I plan on buying one (450Plus or 500) but i do plan to swap the pups for some seymour duncans or bare knuckels. I would go the extra mile and pay a little bit more for the binding on the body. Which one would you recommend?

  • You're so lucky man. You got the last of the HB Les Pauls and SG with the CORRECT Gibson body shapes! They don't have them anymore. I'm SO jealous! ;p

  • Great review!
I bought one a couple of weeks ago and it was the first cheapo without horribly rough frets.
I was planning to swap the pickups for a pair of Stew-Mac 'Parsons Street Golden Age' PAF replicas, which I already have. But I'm not so sure now, these Wilkinsons seem to be quite decent.
Btw, you wrote somewhere that they are changing the shape now, how do you know that, do they say it on the Thomann website?

  • Hey Nick, it's me Mike…the guy who kinda busted your balls a bit about the Harley Benton Collection you have…anyway, I'm sorry cuz you seem like such a nice guy…anyway I did the UNTHINKABLE I ordered a Harly Benton guitar just to really see for myself what they're worth, a friend of mine has two of em but I didn't like his…BTW Souza??? Isn't that a Portuguese name? Keep on rockin' Cheers Mike.

  • These are not built in the same factory as Epiphone.which now has its own factory that only produces Epiphones.

  • Hey Nick nice review . Just wanted to tell you that there are actual Inlays on this Headstock 😀 I once got a Harley Benton L – 400 Goldtop wich is the same guitar just without the clearcoat . And unfortunately this *flare styled Inlay fell out one day and I had to re-glue it lol 😮

    Greetings from Germany

  • Hi Nick, thanks for your review. I'm planning to buy this, but I'm a bit concerned about the machine heads. Should I go for it?

  • Love my L450  amazing guitar for the price  and Thoman's customer sevice is great.

  • Yeah Nick it looks a great buy for the money! If you was desperate for a Gibson alike but don't trust the Chibson folk there are overlays available and a dremil could give this a nice moustache

  • Although I believe HB is still infringing on Gibson because the body shape is almost exact, I would say this is a much better(and cheaper!) alternative to buying Chibsons. I'd have a hard time believing US Customs would snatch these seeing the headstock & logo are differant. Thanx for sharing bud!

  • Pickups are meh, but that price is friggin awesome.  Action looked good too.  I wish these Chinese factories started offering plain tops instead of the flame veneer.  Plain tops are nice too.

  • I already see your 335 one beside you … ha haaaaaaaaa !!! 😛

So by looking at it, it looks a lot like the J&D Brothers LS-500 sample I had a few years back …. almost identicle accept my pups where microphonic. But if you search through my old video's you can see what im talking about.
