I’m glad Guy will be touring with David Gilmour again. See you in October!
It isn’t just that Guy is an amazing bass player, but he has such an affable personality.
Good Lord!! Stephen Fry, Clive Anderson, Alan Davies and now Guy!??!?! Jelly may be an American anomaly, but we still have Jam on the shelves!!! in fact, there's three degrees of… Well, let's call it JELLY for comedic effect…
Jelly: Very clear, extremely filtered mass of sugar and pectin that complements Peanut Butter like a dream.
Jam: Thick, spreadable mass of sugar, pectin and fruit particulates that resembles Apple Butter.
Preserves: I've never heard a Brit ask about preserves. It's a thick Jam with big chuncks and pieces of the fruit suspended in the "Jam". Pairs extremely well with Peanut Butter!!!
But we Certainly Have Jam!!
What a nice fellow.
Three guys in glasses. Bass players!
What work did Guy do with Tears for Fears?
Guy pratt is the only guy in the world that has made a pink floyd track his own.. one of these days..
Whoa he's running a zoom B3 on his board! Loved the interview chaps, thanks!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
Very interesting thanks for this
Like a prayer is one of my favourite bass lines
⚠If Guy Pratt doesn't likes his Spector in the end, I can agree about offering her a new home at my place! A buddy of mine has the same Spector as Guy, I love it! Thus, what I'd love would be the same thing in 5 or 6 strings and with an all maple body… Then, add PUs modelled on the Ricken at the same time as keeping an EMG kit… I have issues with the Ricken ergonomics but I love the sound and if smth like the Spector is all maple, it will do the trick…
⚠Does Madonna really speaks like this? Gosh, she's a Karen! She was absolutely a gorgeous young lady but behaving like this, AAAARGGHHH!
⚠Best basses I ever had in hand were built by master luthier Leduc. Unfortunately, he decided to retire in 2023 after 50 years of activity.
– My preferred ones are the U-bass/5 fretless, I own exactly the same one as Abraham Laboriel Senior. Other famous users are Alain Caron (in the studio or in private, due to F-bass endorsement. Better not bet you hear the F-bass AC-6 on the records, in fact, the U-bass was conceived for Alain Caron but with Leduc making 25-30 instruments a year, forget about endorsements, no way he could pay endorsees) and Marcus Miller.
– The Pad-5 (made of Padauk) : i own the 1st ever made by Leduc. It's the secret of the Manga sound in Afro-Beat. André Manga was Manu Dibango bassist for decades… Some basses are bulldozers. This one is the Bagger 293…
– Well, it was a great idea to put EMGs on a vintage Fender. I love EMG PUs on basses (not so on guitars)
⚠$ Half a billion to build the Yuma studio? Is it possible? Gosh, you may build yourself a great studio just by scavenging in their dumpster!
Amazing! ????????????????????
This interview really calmed me down. I am also a very anxious person and I can see that Guy is also and this makes me calm. There are a lot of thoughts going thru my mind every second (as apparently goes thru Guy's mind) and it seems that this can be very normal for creative personalities. I wish we can talk more about this / make videos about non-bass things and insecurities among pros. Things like stage freight after 1000+ gigs and similar stuff.
Absolutely hilarious interview! Thank you, guys.
I met Guy randomly in a music shop in Brisbane … I actually mentioned how awesome his vocal was in Run and he said "oh cheers mate, most people don't give me credit for my singing" Guy is ???? one of the most talented yet coolest of humans that I've ever met … And now you guys get the full story..crazy!
So Michael Jackson could lock himself (and anyone else) in the bathroom, and escape without anyone seeing who came out?…cool, cool
This guy isn't a prat. This Guy is a Pratt.
M lato to these videos and love your observations. I love the fact that the instruments are properly played even down to the congas. They’re not bangos…
I’ve only recently discovered this channel and I’m a huge fan of Guy’s work. What an awesome treat to while away a Friday afternoon.
I ll be more curious about his bass settings! Seems that the action of his bass is quite high. Please, ask more about those kinds of questions, like action setting, gauges, type of strings… this is very useful die us "average students bassists" imao, to understand the "tone" of those guys! ????
Great interview love the racking I use it in my playing style 🙂
Love it. Guy is the John Cleese of the bass world.
Guy is simply THE musicians bassist! He’s a great musician, and a very entertaining person. If you haven’t yet, read his book. It’s hysterical!
I had had never even heard of Guy Pratt until I recently got the fabulous Toy Matinee album, The Last Plane Out. I only got that because of watching Tim Pierce videos.
What an amazing bass player and such an interesting person.
Great interview.
Fantastic !
Brilliant ❤❤❤ thanks guys❤❤❤
1 of the best interviews ever
“That was the genius with Pink Floyd. It was ideas rather than money and equipment” ???????? Such an inspiring line!
Legend ????????
Exactly one day ago, while driving for coffee’s with the Mrs, “Like a Prayer” was playing on the radio. Halfway through, I blurted out how good I thought the bass line was. I’d never before given two shits about any Madonna song (still don’t). Didn’t mind Ray of Light and American Pie. I’d never heard of Guy before this video. Cool guy. Glad I came across this.
Such an awesome treat, many thanks!
Love you all and Guy, but the camera editing on the imposter syndrome bit is making me feel physically sick. Please just pick a couple of cameras x
Fan-Fucking-tastic interview/discussion – Guys Pratt is hilarious – especially when he was talking about The Pink Floyd Run Like Hell "Audition" !!!????????????????????
