Ernie Ball Earthwood Acoustic Guitar Strings (Light) Review
It’s been a super long time since I’ve changed strings on my Takamine acoustic guitar. And I’ve had these Ernie Ball Earthwood Light acoustic strings sitting here for a while.
**I needed to change my acoustic guitar strings for a gig I was getting ready for! Can’t go on live with dead guitar strings!
Now, when I picked up this pack of acoustic strings it was just a random thing. I actually had not used Ernie Ball strings in years and had never heard of ‘Earthwood’ strings.
Seriously, the name Earthwood sounded cool so that’s why I bought them! I’m kinda funny like that (like, I play the slot machines that have Pandas or Dragons because I like Pandas and Dragons…there’s no deeper thought than that!)
Anyway, I had Elixir strings on my acoustic before this, which is why I had not changed strings in so long. Those strings last forever but they do lose their tone after a few months. But I usually only play acoustic guitar on my patio about 2-3 times a week, so there’s hasn’t been any real need to have new strings (until I had this acoustic gig).
So how do I like the Ernie Ball Earthwood acoustic strings? Well, I’m posting this video on YouTube about a week after changing guitar strings (you guys may have seen a shorter version of this video on IGTV the prior week).
They sound great, and I really like the way they play. The thing is Earthwood strings don’t really sound or feel like most brand new strings. You know how you put new strings on and everything is so bright sounding and plays kind of weird at first?
It actually feels (and sounds) like the strings are already kinda ‘broken in’ if that makes sense. I’ve never liked the sound of brand new strings so this is a plus for me.
Again, these are the Earthwood LIGHT strings. I don’t really care for heavier strings. That may be because I play a lot of leads and heavier strings just never felt right to me.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried (or currently play) with Ernie Ball Earthwood strings, and let me know your thoughts!
If not, comment and let me know what type of acoustic guitar strings you use (and why!).
I hope you enjoyed this video, and please give it a thumbs up!
Keep it Metal,
Jason

I ike the sound of these strings. However, my experience hasn't been great. Bought a pack of three. The A string snap on my Takamine after only a few weeks and the D string did the same on my Blueridge after a month. Both guitars set up perfectly and no issues with the bridge or nut. Wasn't playing agressively so was quite surprised. Based on that I wouldn't purchase again, but maybe I was just unlucky. All makes of guitar strings can snap.
One thing I've always enjoyed about Ernie Ball, electric or acoustic strings, is they tend to feel broken in from the get-go, and they are bright but not harsh. I also like D'Addario. I'm okay with either brand, electric or acoustic. Good demo.
Sounds great brother!! Thank you
I been using earnie ball earthwood Medium strings, and i been considering going to the light strings. Why I'm video surfing . . .
Not sure what exactly the difference is. Or if it makes the strings flex easier.
But nice video.
Big Bro got me ????????????????????
Great video, review and playing. What do you think of the D’Addario Nickel Bronze?
Absolutely love the metal music on a video for acoustic strings Epic!!
New strings never sound good for the first day or so.
I was using dadario and yamaha strings and they were great,..and last time there was not any dadario in the shop,..so the guy give me this strings,…i usually play on 11s ,..i was looking for some honest review for this,..for me this strings sound awful,..the worst i played so far,….like when you hit the string with the pick it gives you this annoying sound like you play on some toy guitar or something.
Comparing any year-old strings with any brand new strings are going to provide a very big advantage to the new strings.
Dude…. I love you!
Everybody loves a show off. Nice picking. Nashville out! There are a bunch of these on sale on offer up so thanks for the advice
I'm filming a Brazilian Romantic Drama show, would you be willing to play the intro?
Sounding really good ..I go through strings like crazy ..I am obsessed with trying new strings, fixing to put these on my Martin DXE..I love that guitar you have and you play it like a champ!
I will now perform cut strings
Is this guy trying to sound like Elvis?
What different bronze and phospore bronze bro?
Can u help me
I haven't changed my strings in 4 years, I'm learning how to change them right now. I'm not sure which strings to buy and I'm afraid of it breaking :')
Hi, Jason. Thanks for your review, my dreadnaught has Earthwood Medium Light strings on it now. I’ve been considering lighter ones for a while. Your info is appreciated. Thanks so much. ????
1:43 what ever you just played wasn’t just a play test, it was a serenata, beautiful…
Also nice strings man ????????????, definitely want to buy these 🙂
0:33 first strings
1:44 second strings
Better than Elixir?
For Celtic trad flatpicking?
Maybe si should try
I'm not a fan. Tone is dull and the lifespan is shorter than normal strings from my experience
They sound alot better than your system. I'm very happy with mine. You have to play and keep in tune a few times. It's worth it.
What made you decide on these strings because I just put set on my acoustic. Sweetwater suggested I buy these and I put on a Tusk saddle nut. I like them better than elixr because I needed more string options than Exlir couldn't offer. I'm going to stay with them.
Seems like the earthwoods lack some bass
you're string price tag just reminds me of Thailand
Спасибо!)
No that’s a fake one.
I am also an acoustic lover and metalhead, and as soon as i heard your metal inlay to string replacement i subbed. Those strings have a katatonia sound, but your guitar has an utterly beautiful tone. Im checking out your albums now, im sorry i not seen your stuff before.
So I have had to replace my G chord and I did with these that you're using but it picks up on my tuner as A and not G. Any idea as of why?
Hey, just saw the video on genuine and non genuine earnie ball strings…… Seems like you got duped ????????
Sir does it last 6 months?
I prefer warmer tones in an accoustic guitar and i feel that the ernie ball failed to do so.
Cool shredding though.
sound good with E Ball's.
How long can i use this sir?
Are you in Thailand ( I saw the price tag)
