  • Not long ago there was a Bonamassa interview/promo video for one of his signatures and Joe said the guitars now cost $2-300 more to make. I can't imagine pricing is in JB's wheelhouse but it is a bit of left handed behind the back messaging on Epi/Gibson's part. And seems somewhat feasible.

  • Ultimately the people to blame for Epiphone’s price rises are those who are paying prices such as 1299 for the DG model. It’s a nice guitar, I’m not really interested in signature models but if it had been 999 then maybe I’d have bought one. At 1299, I can afford one but won’t on principle and others should do likewise. If you’re a person who grumbles about prices and then buys anyway, you are part of the problem. There’s plenty of choice of good 335-style guitars for half this money (and less)

  • So many of them are coming beaten up, or with cracks. I don't know. The price is not right for an epiphone. Maybe something around 1k usd would be more appropriate, although it would still sell like hot cakes even for 2k usd.

  • The kurt cobain jagstang and the Grohl DG-335 are almost the same price. I smell a conspiracy theory brewing.

  • The Epiphone DG-335 might be a little too pricey for some folks' personal opinions, but we're talking about less than a fifth the price of the not-very-attractive (i.e. kinda' ugly) gold Gibson Custom Shop version, a tenth the price of the black version, or a twentieth of the price of the most-desirable Pelham Blue #1. Is it "too expensive for a Chinese-made guitar"? Considering you get a killer hardshell case ($150-200), nice inlays, real Gibson Burstbuckers ($380-ish) and upgraded pots, it's really not out of line at all, and that's strictly from a "sum of parts" perspective. Also considering that the fit and finish has been pretty consistent (something Big G struggles with, even), it's a great guitar for the money. Not a "bargain" (although more so than the Bonamassa '63 SG, which is awesome but should've come with USA pickups for the price), but not a ripoff either. Mine has a neck that feels like my '64 Gibson Custom Shop SG reissue, and was flawless out of the box. Lowered the pickups and bridge a little, and perfection. First guitar I've bought in a long, long time I've had no complaints about and didn't have at least some kind of buyer's remorse for. And for folks who want a "deal", there are always the Ali- and DHG-knockoffs, which are "close enough for rock-n-roll" for most, and then one can upgrade pickups if one wants and they can do it on a budget that they may feel more comfortable with. But as-is, the Epi DG is a helluva' guitar and definitely quite fun to play and record with. I love the look of the Firebirds, but I do agree those seem to be a little more "outrageous" regarding price. There's an upcoming SG/Les Paul Custom (Maestro, 3-pickup, white) coming, with the Gibson headstock, and I am quite anxious at how much it might cost.

  • I can't play guitar (but I wish I could) I don't own a guitar (but both my boys do) but wow, do I love your videos, they're an absolute joy. You are a YouTube treasure sir.

  • The DG Epiphone is made in china and it's the same price as like 3 amazing Solar guitars or 3 Mexico Fenders. Lol????. It's worth about half the asking price. Gibson pickups and a hardcase don't add up to $3299aud. The people that are supposed to be buying these Epiphones are not the same people who purchased them a few years ago. Epiphone are asking for like made in USA prices. ????

  • Epiphones are selling out people and some music stores are already on back order with some models i have 3 2021 high end Epiphones and wouldn't have it any other way..and you're delusional if you think no one is buying them many of us have been waiting years for epiphone to be restored back to where the should have always been and it happened in 2019 by JC Curliegh..go buy something you can actually afford because complaining about prices of epiphone and Gibson changes Nothing

  • Hmm, seems like Gibson/Epiphone have decided they don't want the money of people who won't/can't spend $1000 on a guitar.

I guess we just have to listen to them then and not buy Epiphone.

  • I enjoy your work, normally, but you said cajoled in a context where a pun on Grohl was available, and and and you just wasted it

  • @9:29 seems like both Gibson and Epiphone don't want us to buy their guitars. And that's exactly what I will be doing – not buy their gutiars. There are several others brands that deserves my money more like for example Guild, Squier, Yamaha and even Harley Benton.

  • You can still get a regular Epiphone ES-335 for around £500. I got my Epi ES-339 a couple of years ago second hand but in mint condition for about £300.

There's no reason to be upset that some Epiphones are too expensive, when you can still get other Epiphones at the price you want to pay.

If you're then going to complain the specs aren't what you want, then you might begin to understand why the more expensive guitar is more expensive.

  • unpopular strategy – hundreds of people will jump on to buy it then realised, it won't scratch the itch as it's another epiphone 335 but with diamond shape holes and pointy headstock. It will not gain value as a second hand because supply will be massive. My bet is that it will hit marketplace sooner than expected an i will gladly buy one for 750
