  • I recently blew V30 in my Hot rod deluxe. I have a couple of T 75s in a cabinet that I bought in 2000. I was thinking of putting one of those in and then adding maybe a ruby to the other cabinet . I guess I’m curious as to what the T75 will sound like I a fender .I just hate pulling the chassis out of the hot rod deluxe in and out just to change speakers. But I guess I’m going to have to.

  • I'm amazed by the clean sounds. Never cared for V30s for gain. I used to have a Marshall 4×12 and used the stock 75s with a 50 watt Jubilee for medium gain and replaced the other two stock speakers with two EVM12Ls with my 67 Bassman for clean to slight gain. Too bad I didn't try the 75s with the Bassman. Now I prefer the higher power G12H with my Dr Z Route 66. I use an Avatar 1×12 and it sounds great. All pedals for gain. Nice vid!

  • Listened on my setup and my G12T75 in my Marshal 4×12 1960B do not sound that raspy. Sure I have no clue what was the gain setup but with my stuff I do not have that much raspiness if you get what I mean. But like I have said mine are really really old and in really old 4×12.

  • My Fullstack has 4 of both in an X-Pattern and I couldn´t be happier. They fill the holes each have with the others. And cleansounds are unneccesary in productdemos because they just dont really help with identifying the differences. They are much more pronounced and a more useful buyers guide with a gainy sound.

  • The efficiency of the T75 is around 83db, the V30 around 98db so the V30 is massively louder.
Though sonically complementary they will never be a balanced combination in a cab,- the V30 will always overpower the T75.
Personally I liked the T75 since it´s heyday in the 80s´ 1960 Marshall cabs,- more top and bottom end than the V30.
The V30 has a distinct upper midrange lift ala the Greenback,- only shifted downwards in frequency too achieve the same character a treblebooster going into a preamp of an amp would have but across a lower frequency spectrum.
This is why they work so well for downtuned extended range guitar sounds in 4×12 cabs for metal,- NOT because they have more bottom end than the T75,- they don´t!
Learn how to read charts, don´t go by anecdotal evidence and bro science,- it´s the hallmarks of a delusional dilletant amateur.
Forget what speakers are called,- when combining speakers go for complementary eq-characteristics, fairly equal power ratings and fairly equal efficiency ratings,- then you have a fair chance of setting up a well functioning sonically pleasing even volume giving combination.

  • I've got this exact speaker combination in my 1936 cab. Sounds very nice although I think the V30 seems noticeably louder so dominates the sound.

  • In all the samples I preferred the T75, I discovered my love for the T75 when I first tried a Marshall 4×12, I expected the 4×12 to be so much darker, thanks to the T75 it was not!

  • I like them mixed in cab. Stand alone, V30 is too much midrange for me, where T75s can be too scooped at times. Together? Awesome.

I was laughed at hard, when I mention this combination in several online forums. For like "why to use shitty speaker as T75 at all" … This video shows perfectly why.

  • for my tastes even if t75 is a little harsh on very top end i perfer it over v30.

  • There is no better or worse, there are differences. These speakers sound even extremely different if sitting in an open back or closed cabinet. The cabinet size matters too. Also, the material of the cab makes a huge difference. Finally the amp is a factor too. This is my personal experience having tested a wide variety of Celestion speakers with various cans and amps.

  • T-75 With no doubt i was going to replace my T-75s in my Marshall 1960 but i found the T-75s to be very close to the UK make greenbacks just with a more modern voicing

  • I'd usually just drop in to leave a mean comment about T75s but… I'm kinda coming around on the T75s lately.
Great to see Zilla Cabs back on youtube

  • When combining a V30 412 with a T75 412, the V30s dominate. (Sensitivity is a factor.).
I think my T75 just “sounds like a Marshall.” (woody thump and all)

  • Ive always liked these 2 speakers, but it's funny, because out of almost all the speakers I've ever blended, I always felt like these two sound a bit weird together. Anyone else know what I mean? Like obviously they work, but I've even tried with multiple different V30's/T-75's, in a 2×12, and a 4×12, and I never like it.

I cant really explain exactly what, or why, but it just always sounds weird to me, almost like I feel like I'm having phase issues or something hah. I've never mentioned it to anyone before, but always wondered if it was just me hah.

So I'm curious to hear if anyone else feels this way, or what others think about this blend. Obviously different speakers even of the same model can sound quite different, so you never know, but Ive tried four different 75's(two older white labels non vented, and two newer white/black labels), and I have six V30's all made in UK, an no matter what combination I use, they always sound weird to me hah.

  • Sounded pretty great clean, but generally the issue with T75s is that "rattle" will ALWAYS be present in the mix. Plus, the midrange isn't terribly authorative and can easily be absorbed by any other instrument getting near the mix. Which means…sometimes the only thing that you hear in a mix when using a T75 is that bright, fizzy rattle.

  • I was listening through my mobile with headphones without watching;
I liked A because it was clearer so I thought it was the v30 (which I hate).
Glad it was the t75 instead.

  • I think marshall makes a mistake using that speaker in its marshall cabs. The resulting marshall cab plus head is often way too fizzy for what I think is the classic marshall sound. I've pulled my 75s out and replaced them with greenbacks. Of course the downside is that I now have to play through a full stack instead of a half stack to get the power rating I want. 🙂

  • Still on vacation. But never the less I can recognize both of them always. I still have 1960B with very old G12T75. It is not harsh at all. It actually sounds sort of like bit less compressed less speaker breakup brother of the original Greenback. Or maybe slightly handicapped cousin of the pre Rola Greenbacks ????
Clean it it wonderful. Dirty it loses some top end but gets those Marshall with Celestion middle range. Real rock speaker. Though cabinet is from 1971 and that helps as well. Basically G12T75 can behave as some Alnico speakers. Chimey on clean and midd focused on dirt. It works surprisingly good with really good amplifiers. Though it requires not cue amplifier to sound good as well. With some amplifiers it can sound bit dull.
I have to admit I wanted to change them in my 4×12 in the beginning but luckily I have tried it with another amplifier and I have let them be.
Nowadays Celestion has even better and more balanced ceramic magnet speakers and I like more Creamback H and Hempback than G12T75. New and not broken in G12T75 can be really harsh. Especially with some amplifiers.

I am out of love for V30, sorry. Sure it might be good for some amplifiers and some genres of music (mainly high gain stuff) but its projection and top end is irritating me.
I still do not understand how Badcat was using them in some of their combos while making real hardwired work of art amplifiers. Friend was changing tubes and stuff in his Badcat looking of better sound. After he got the Hempback he couldn’t believe the difference. He plays Strat and clean and edge of the breakup. All he didn’t like was gone. I have to admit I have told him to take the Hempback. His V30 collects dust now. He wanted to gift it to me but two V30’s that I already own is one to many ????
OK OK V30 can really improve some amplifiers that miss the top end. Also at high power they can really cut true the mix. But they are hard on boutique amplifiers. Tone end gets too much and distorted. Middle gets some unneeded honk. Simply it is not ideal combination.

  • I have a late 80s Marshall 1960A cab with T75s. It sounds great for riffing certain styles. Can be a bit harsh when playing lead though. It's not a bad all rounder.

I just bought an old Marshall Mode Four straight cab for fairly cheap and free shipping. I figure I can rework it to look like an oversize Greenback cab or whatever, as it needs the grill cloth replaced. But then I read about the MF30 Vintage speakers in it. They are a variant of V30 like the Marshall Vintage, or Mesa etc. Some folks seem to like them. I will not get my hopes up, but I may have just got four good sounding V30s for naff all.

I am thinking the harsher sounding speakers should go in the bottom cab and warmer ones in the top cab, so the latter is not impaling the ear drums.

P.S. I was a lad during the 1980s. Milton Keynes, UK, but NZ these days. I wanted a full stack for decades, but somehow only ever had a half stack. Now I have one. I no longer jam, but one reason for putting one together is for the nephew to experience the thump and roar etc. In some ways he's overtaking me at guitar (he can do all that tricky nu-metal riffing).
I also just finally got around to getting an Explorer. I have to start building my horde to take to guitar Valhalla 😛
