  • OH MAN, I thought I knew what guitar I wanted, but the extra 1-2k sounds so, so worth it…

  • To each his own of course, but to me the Collings 12 Frets just sound too muddy. I'd much rather hear a Taylor or Martin in the 12 fret style. More crisp and clear…

  • I love my Taylor 522 12 fret Hog, but if I was going to step up, that is the step I'd make.

  • handmade like Collings have to be viewed as works of art and sound. there are precious few of them ; and considering the amount of time, talent , materials , equipment , that goes into the finished build , Luthier's like Collings can be considered for the most part , highly underpaid Artisans ! $4-5K really is a steal !!

You should try making a guitar from scratch.. Aside from the investment in tools and materials, when you're 10 hours into the finish [countless hours into the project] you begin to wonder "how the hell can luthiers afford to sell hand-built instruments for only $4000?"   ..and then you remember you need to spend at least 5 hours leveling, crowning, and polishing the frets until they look as smooth as mercury.
I haven't made any acoustics yet.  Making a perfect electric from raw lumber is enough of a challenge for me right now.

  • Gorgeous guitar and superb playing.  Just curious if anyone knows the name of the blues style James is playing?  Delta, Piedmont …?

  • Sound pretty sweet to me especially for an "0" size guitar. I have a great sounding Martin 0-17 from 1912 and this one sound a little more full and balanced.
