ARIA PRO II TAB-CLASSIC Bass Review // Vintage tone and then some?
I’m a huge fan of the various basses Aria Pro II makes, and this model is certainly no exception. I’m of the opinion that this TAB-CLASSIC semi-hollow bass by Aria can give you vintage tone, and then some. Am I right? We’ll see just how versatile it is in this video. More info…

Thanks for the review, well done. Aria Pro II basses are incredible. I bought my first new in 1981. It's a TSB-400 which is medium scale. My son who is an incredible lead guitarist said I was spoiled from the get go with my bass since it has great fret access, finishing and is perfectly balanced. Fast forward 40+ years to now when I needed to purchase another bass for recording because one of the resin filled pickups on my original bass no longer works. I tried to find a replacement to pick up and even had one custom made but it just didn't sound as good as the original so I thought I will purchase another base to use in the meantime since I had recording to do. Medium scale bases are not that common but that's what I'm used to and that's what I like best so the hunt was on. I ended up purchasing an Aria Pro II Jet bass which is also a medium scale instrument but with a jazz bass pickup configuration. It has great fret access and the finishing of the bases pretty good overall but it is slightly neck heavy, albeit not as bad as any of the short scale bases I checked out since I could not find other medium scale bases. I've had the chance to play live with it through some pretty incredible PA systems and am quite happy with the sound. It even has a nice sound when slapping it. I love the hollow body base you just reviewed and if it was available in a 32-in medium scale, I would buy one in a heartbeat, especially in that beautiful red color. Here is a link to a track i recorded with my TSB-400 using only the neck pickup. https://youtu.be/GESqzNpdwvs?si=h7B9SZiTf64ZvVnn
Does it feedback a bunch?
Hey bro, where's the flatwound demo of this bass?
Was pleasantly surprised with the slap tone. 🙂
You described exactly what I have and what I still need. I have a P-style bass (actually an old Aria RSB Standard with a single split-coil pickup), and an active 5-string J-style bass (with an awesome MM option, a Clover Apeiron H.5, modded so I can also use it split to JJ active). Now I'm looking for a semi-hollow bass. But I think I'll go one step further and pick a short-scale one. I also already have a fretless, that's also something every bass player should consider. And you should definitely try using the tone blend on a Jazz Bass, there are some awesome sounds in it, especially with front or back pickup only.
This Aria sounds great! It can produce a nice vintage tone, even with the roundwounds, but it sounds pretty tight and modern fully open. Great when you can't bring 2 or 3 basses to a gig!
Thanks for a cool video, I got my Aria Pro base about 20 years ago and I love it! Sounds great and are a pleasure to play.
I'm really impressed with the tone…sounds awesome
OK. I see an Aria Pro II LB-650N on the wall (I hope it's an Aria). I'd love to hear your review of that one.
Wow that Aria is sweet as hell, that is the only kind of bass that I don't have in my arsenal. Would love to have some kind of Gibson EB Hollow bass but they are so expensive now, the only Gibson bass that I have is a 66 EB-0, that actually was my first bass and that's what I use for the old school sound. I kind of have my eye out for a Epiphone Jack Cassidy, but I have a Epiphone SG bass that I am not happy with. I thought it would be fairly close to the old school Gibson EB-3 that it far from what the Epiphone. I have a hard time not looking at the Gibson behind you, Grabber or Ripper? Just kind of discovered the Japanese guitars and basses. I purchased a Aria Pro ll zzb HH not that long ago, and it is a fantastic instrument. About a year ago I got a Westone Concord bass, P style it also is a thumper. I wish I would have discovered these Japanese instruments long ago, a friend of mine told me that the Westone Concord was not even available to the U.S. Thanks I am going to look for one of the hollow body Arias, if you look hard enough and have patience you can get a lot of bang for your buck. I just missed out on a Westbury bass not that long ago, I wanted it because I have a 1980 Westbury Standard guitar that factoy Dimarzios. Took enough of your time, oh and I would put flats on that hollow body.
Thanks bassman very cool
Excellent tone nice blend of smoothness with a little grit and growl.
Love this Aria Basses, I proudly own one Cardinal CBS 450 Pro II in Brown, neck through construction and is the sound is between p bass and a MM Stingray. Just mmmmm punchy, rich and loads of character. Oh man, I tell you this bass stays with me forever!
I liked the sound of that bass. Here in Brazil, the basses sound like a can, as if you were hitting an anvil.
What a tone! That bridge pickup makes the bass sound so versatile. Thank you for sharing, Bassman ????????????❤️????
Is that a Gibson Grabber bass on your wall? Are you a Gene Simmons fan by any chance?
Great demo!
Sweet-sounding bass Rumblin Man. Thanks for sharing with us. Cheers
Nice bass Rumblin Man!
I'm not usually a fan of semi hollow basses but that's a really nice bass you got there, I really like Aria's headstock. God bless you Daniel!!!
It sounds really good, I like that bridge pickup. Your playing was excellent in the demo
Cool it has a similar vibe to the Epiphone Rumblekat bass which is amazing
