Orange Rocker 15 Terror Amp | Review

Orange Rocker 15 Terror | Review | Demo | Amplifier

British amplifier legends, Orange unveiled some exciting additions to their range at this year’s NAMM. The new compact amp line includes the Brent Hinds signature Terror head, the Rocker 15 Terror head and Crush Mini amps. Nick Jennison got grips with the later of the two new releases in this issue.

Orange Rocker 15 Terror

Capable of 15, 7, 1 or 0.5 Watts of output, the Rocker 15 Terror is the head only version of the enormously popular Rocker 15 Combo that moves seamlessly from home, to the studio, to the stage. Finally, a small, two channel, bedroom-friendly all-valve amp that you can legitimately gig.

  • The more demos I watch, the more I feel like I need this amplifier. ❤ I got to jam on this as a combo version that a friend of mine owns, and I loved the tones and grunt it produces.

  • Bought this amp and I must say absolutely great amp for smaller venues.
Prefer to use the clean channel with pedals for a great overdriven tone.
    Great for Acdc type players.

  • That shirt tight on the beer bod. That's my favorite kind of rocker. Great review 🙂

  • Came here interested on the amp and walked away wanting the JHS Andy Timmons OD pedal

  • Really surprised how well made the thing is inside looking at it. Then after watching the video of the china plant it looks to be made by hand. Add the tones and you have a winner.

  • Take heed of his advice at 1:20 – I got the combo with a 1*10 speaker which is light weight and that's fine for at home but you just can't beat the 12" speaker. Wish I got the amp head now !!

  • Amp’s not for me. The dirty channel is too gritty and grainy, i.e sterile. And the clean channel is limited and not that clean. Great demo

  • Nice review. I've had this amp for over a year now. I tried a few different pedals over the dirty channel and by far, my beano treble boost, does an amazing job cutting out some of the lows and gives such a beautiful raunchy classic rock sound. If you get one of these, make sure it is the first pedal in your loop-it makes all the difference in the world.

  • Normalement il n'y a pas de reverbe sur cet ampli… donc le son de cette démo est trafiqué… dommage ….

  • This is probably the best review I've seen for an amp, so far. It is almost as if I've tested it myself and looked into small details that are of interest to me. Thank you!

  • I love Orange distortion. I love it more than any other.
But…Orange seems to do that ONE thing well, and brush the clean tones to the side. Even the "good" Orange cleans are bested by many other amp makers.
So that is the Achilles heel of Orange. Its the One Trick Pony syndrome.
If they would just keep the distortions in the great place where they live and pay some actual attention to cleans, they would literally blow the doors off.
The lack of cleans has always been the reason I wont buy an Orange amplifier. Seriously, the only Orange I could justify in my own mind would be something thats so cheap that you wouldnt even expect a clean tone at that price… because of head room…Which is probably a Micro or Tiny Terror.
This particular amp is the same stuff we see from Orange year after year… Great distortion and nearly nonexistent cleans.
Cmon Orange! Stop it with the half complete amps!
Design something with a great clean channel. You can do it!

  • Brilliant review and playing, explained the different amp features instead of showing off his ability, which he clearly has.

  • Could you gig this in a large hall with a large audience?
Could you jam with a loud drummer (no PA)
All scenarios mentioned would be with an Orange 2×12

  • Putting a delay in the effects loop won’t improve the clarity of the repeats on the natural channel since its overdrive is derived from the power amp section which comes after the effects return.

  • Orange Rocker 15 combo is $700, which is understandable. Orange Rocker 15 Terror head by itself is $700, and you have to buy your own cab. WTF?!?

  • but can you get a modern, rockerverbish sound with a pedal in the front? cause i like the jim root terror but i hate that it only has one channel

  • This is an excellent amp demo, because you've clearly spent a bit of time with the amp to understand how it sounds. I'm sick of amp demos where it starts with everything at 12 and tweak, getting facts wrong and not knowing that most players have a sound in mind already. Testing the loop and an OD shows that you think of how players will use this amp. And the playing is cracking.
