James and Vince are both incredible guitar virtuosos..????????????✌️❤️????
1:09 makes the "buck buck" chicken sound with his mouth; can't guess where chicken pickin' gets its name.
The solo Vince played in the live performance of "Don't Try this at home" is the best EVER, any genre.
Vince: “idk why it’s called chicken pickin”
Vince 30 seconds later: “guitar go buckabuckabucka ????????????”
Glad to see him using his thumb instead of a pick when chick'n pick'n
Saw Vince with the Eagles twice. His voice is beautiful and his guitar playing is sublime. Got goosebumps listening to him
Bill kirchen started the chicken pickin style
Mark Knopfler is famous for that style with his finger-picking approach that many now identify with him as a signature style. I guess you'd say it's a derivative of what James Burton and others did, which Mark certainly was inspired by. "Sultans of Swing" is chicken pickin' with rock, jazz, blues and other influences embedded in it as well.
Vince is a cool dude. He’s a great story teller, musician, and appears to be good man.
Fat Daddy Holmes for the chicken picking win! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtRMxRBIpO0
I really think he got from Bill Monroe yodeling
Love ya man.
I think it came from earl scruggs 3 finger banjo style.
I love you Vince Gill. ????????????
Sweeeeeet pea!
I would call that a “twang”. Not that I’m an authority or anything like one.
When I started finger picking I rarely ever use a pick unless it's a song that i need to pick .. 5 fingers are much better than 1 pick.. if we'd been born with 6 fingers on for every string..lol..thank for the video!!!
mark knopfler uses that sorr of technique
Love Vince and his music!!! ❤️
Vince Gill what a talent ! One hell of a chicken picker , singer , songwriter . I just learned more about how to play country guitar in 1:20 than that last 20 years practicing .
Jerry Reed wàs a master at this.
He said he didn’t know how it got it’s name, then in the next sentence, he said it sounds like chickens lol
See Brent Mason
Amazed
Alsome man
top bloke
Vince is one of the greatest, I love this player
Anyone know what brand shorts Vince wears?
The look on Vince Gill's face when he's asked about chicken picking for the 50 millionth time.
Thanks Psalm 34
Merle Travis & Jerry Reed had that style a long time ago…!
James Burton! Playing in Ricky Nelson's band on the old Ozzie and Harriet Show. One of my earliest musical influences and likes.
Vine Gill is great but he's wrong. Decades before JB was Mere Travis.
James Burton, Jerry Reed, Roy Nichols…
1:10 and that, Vince, sounded like a chicken. LOL
Really Vince…. no pick? I knew you had one ….????
If I could just learn to Travis Pick…if I…
I know what you mean lucky B, I agree .
No denying he’s a mighty fine geetarist though!
VINCE COUNTRY MUSIC IS MISSIN THAT OLD COUNTRY SOUND.
TIME TO GO TO WORK BUD AND HELP BEING COUNTRY BACK TO COUNTRY ????
Comander Cody . Was doin chickN pickin way back in the day .
Bill Kirchen
James Burton is the innovator of many Tele tricks. While standing at the side of the stage I watched him play a show with Jerry Lee Lewis. He played a Tele straight into a Fender Twin with only reverb and knocked it out of the park! Excellent technique, taste and tone all night and never a boring solo. James is the real deal!
Jerry reed os the man
Whiskey!
Albert Lee.
I will tell you why, it sounds like a chicken clucking, and you are picking a guitar, hence forth chicken picking or "chickin picking" and it sounds great….
Way too go vince Gill…????????????
I got it listening to Sax players …remember ..Charlie brown..?…yakety sax…that was chiken pickin to my ears….in 1958…..
Kind and insightful as usual! Thank you.
Two words: Jerry. Reed.
