The Black Beauty! Harley Benton SC Custom III P90

Harley Benton SC Custom III P90

For those who demand both style and substance, the SC-Custom III P90 delivers on all fronts! Crafted from a Meranti body and neck, it features a WSC Tune-O-Matic bridge, along with a graphite nut and Grover tuners, making tuning instability and intonation issues a thing of the past. The Modern C-profile neck with 22 medium jumbo frets lends to a smooth and comfortable playing field, even for the most intricate of solos. Powering the SC-Custom III are its twin Tesla Alnico-5 P90 pickups, getting you that distinct sound that isn’t overtly fat or thin, but sits comfortably in the middle. The two volume controls and tone controls, 3-way toggle switch, along with the push/pull coil split feature, add further versatility, letting you dial-in the perfect tone. Whether you’re laying down smooth grooves or unleashing fiery solos, the SC-Custom III P90, here in a classy Black finish, is your perfect musical partner.

  • It looks nice but personally I like pickguards on my guitars. If I bought one I'd have to see if an LP picguard would fit without too much work.

  • It's Black Gold theme guitar, but it looks like the knobs, switch, strap button and pole piece on the pups are not.
The screw on the back cover are not gold too ????

  • A Gold top with p90 version will be perfect. Do you know if Thomann got plans for that? Thank you. Love your playing mate always got me emotional. ????

  • Hey Jon, it’s a bit off topic, but what’s the contraption you have sitting on top of your amp, holding your pedals??? I’ve been looking for something to sit on top of my head that works like that. I’ve resigned my self to just t making something. But, if there’s a product on the market, then I’d love to check it out. Yet, HB guitars (among others) are putting out exceptional gear (under $500) if you don’t mind what seems to be a gamble when it comes to the QC of these companies. That’s always the challenge when putting out a guitar in this price range. Short of that, it’s excellent knowing there are companies out there waiving their middle fingers at the big boys charging obscene amounts of money for guitars the bulk majority of which was cut by a CNC machine, then “assemble” by employees.

  • I modified my SC Custom II with the pus from PRS Chris Rpbertson special – which means A P90 in the neck position and a 57/08 "s" in the bridge, kind of a PAF style humbucker with excellent coil splitting. And with two very distinct pick ups it is more the switch that is unnecessary and the two volume knobs are pure gold. I can perfectly and seamlessly mix the P90s base with the crystal clear heights from the humbucker. Actually now I wish I had the Les Paul style separated tone selectors as well 😉 But I could get rid of the switch altogether.

It is nice to see so many small improvements on the guitar. Since so many changed the nice and warm but somewhat weak Roswell humbuckers they installed hotter Teslas (or in this case, optional P90s), the jack is in a better position (I hardly can play the Custom II sitting all that long because it presses so hard into my leg). Many other small details as well. And they started to use stainless steel frets. For now I'm still happy with mine, but I will keep a close eye on Harley Bentons custom line.

  • Very nice playing! That guitar looks cool as well! I'd leave the truss rod cover plain black, and make the Harley Benton logo smaller, like Friedman logo on their guitars, small but classier, my take… Thanks for the vid. Cheers! I am sending you an e-mail, :). Check the junk mail, if it doesn't go through. ????

  • I’ve been playing for 30 years. I’m down to just an HB te-62. They make some great guitars
