  • It is amazing how many choices of strings there are in the world… but more amazing that the choice for oneself is so subjective to the ear, style, experience and of course specific instrument/design in use. I find it quiet rewarding to explore what works best for me, not so amazing the $$ spent and yet to be spent! 🙂 and hearing others opinions. What's great about Alan's reviews lately is that they all start with the same tune and same guitar (and older vids have them too, just need to scroll a bit) – making it very consistent for comparison and to pick what may work best for you. As our tastes, styles may change, this is so good to be able to come back and play thru all these vids to pick a new strings to try. Thank you Alan! Looking forward to your continuing reviews!!

P.S. these Martin's in high tension seem to work very well on my 7/8 scale, short scale Ortega.

  • I just put these on my taylor 12n and i really like them, the same gray martin polygut strings came on my martin IZ tenor ukulele and i love them on that. Never knew the same were available for the classical until i saw your video.

  • One of the worst strings I've ever used! (Together with Daddario and Pyramid)
Martin strings can be decent for acoustic guitars only.
I used more than 10 – 15 brand classical strings models during 20 years of playing classical guitar, and for my experience now I use to buy only 3 brands:
Ernie Ball Ernesto Palla: fantastic for playability and price too. As close as Savarez for feeling.
Augustine Red medium tension and Blue imperial. The best for durability.
La Bella 2001 medium tension, 850 and 900B: Incredible quality plus full and warm sound.
La Bella 2001: my favourite for playability, durability and powerful sound.
850 model has golden alloy both basses and nylon trebles too. After many time (and corrosion) they sound warmer than in the beginning!
900B model has polished golden alloy basses and black nylon trebles.
    IMHO…a killer mixture! ????
