Best Bedroom Level Home Tube Amp is…A Marshall Origin 50C ???

SO I got a decibel meter on my phone, and this amp actually has a usable 1 on the Master! In the Low (5watt) mode, it will do 65dB clean and 85dB with the Tube Screamer. Sounds great in my basement and doesn’t wake up the kids! I’ve seen other videos where it will crank to 113dB in 50watt mode, so this amp literally does everything you need! Practice at home, then take it to the stage, and the best part, the tone sounds almost exactly the same at every level….even though, you know…louder is “more better.”

I traded out the Fender Blues Jr. (it was all or nothing…either way too loud or silent) for this bad boy, which has a 3-way power setting, and on the Low (5-watt) setting, I’m getting great tone at super low volume. What do you think? Should I sell my Pod Go?

  • This review is helpful. Still Really torn between going Origin 50w or Katana Gen 3…….like the idea of old skool with pedals as a garden room hobbyist.

  • I bet i could clip the speaker wire on my solid state amp with the celestion hook up a female and male 1/4 jack so i can swap between the head and combo? I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just turned an old fender mustang into a 2×12 cab as to not have to purchase a cab. I'll find out i guess. Cheers and I'm very happy to see all the love for this amp. It's taken away most of the anxiety from the couple awful reviews i saw after the purchase. Ppl alway have to hate. I'm glad I'm naive to all this stuff.

  • I purchased the bugera g20 yesterday. Quickly got cold feet canceled for the origin 59 instead it 200 more and a real tube amp. I've avoided marshalls because im a moron and the 90s annoyed me. I was 100% wrong. A old marshall is like a old fender that sounds better . I haven't truly liked an amp until i picked up a ss combo from my local guitar shop for 25 bucks. It was huge for me. Finally i coukd make my guitar sound like the clash to cream to ac/dc. I cant wait to side by side them. That old solid state is a unicorn i think?

  • Awesome. I'm glad to "hear" that it's good for in home use because that's pretty much all I'll be doing with mine these days. I was a little concerned about that because I've seen some posts online complaining that it's so loud! It's too loud! I enjoy a loud amp even though I rarely get to play one cranked up so that's why I bought the 50 over the 20. I also wanted the most clean headroom I could get. I love this amps clean tone.

  • Hey, I am confused on whether I should get the origin in 20w or 50w. I am buying just for home practice and recording and no gigging. Should I get the 20w or 50w?

  • Can it break up at bedroom levels in the Low setting? Like, having that nice tube saturation on a low volume?

  • I have always played 40 and 50 watt amps at home using moderate volume and it still sounds fantastic but for me master volume amps are must to make it work. I have a DSL 40 Cr and DSL 5 CR and both are great for home use and I have been using the 40 alot more at home between the DSLs the origin series and the studio series Marshall has been Nailing it I want to Add a studio vintage and an origin to the arsenal to use mainly for pedal platforms . I have a collection of great pedals that I don't use with my DSls because the drive is so great on both amps I don't need them . Although the classic Gain channel on the DSL 5 sounds awesome with decent Pedals . Nails old school Rush live guitar tone from 75/76 with just a basic MXR distortion 3. It's a light distortion that sounds perfect for old rush. It also does a great mid 90s Jimmy page tone with just a Boss OD3 .

  • I agree, the Origin series is fantastic. I've got the 50 watt head that I run into a 4×12 for live, and I run it into a 1×10 cab at home for practice on the 5 watt setting.

  • The key to this amp this. Simple. Especially for home use. Treat it as a home stereo. The gain works as a master volume. Regular volume as said in this video does not need to be above 4. Keep tilt at1pm for humbuckers. 3 pm for single coil. With a boss od and boss SD in front you can go anywhere. Including stacking the pedals. Again. You have to set it up as a home stereo. When I bought mine in 2019 the salesman explained with a marshall rep on the line how to set it up. Gain and tilt controls are the key.

  • In the manual, Low mode is 0,5 watt….
"2. OUTPUT LEVEL Adjusts the output power level. At high power the output will be the maximum available power level. At mid power the output of the amplifier is set for quieter performance use and recording (ORI20: approx. 3W / ORI50: approx. 10W). At low power the output will be reduced for home practice (ORI20: 7. 0.5W / ORI50: approx. 0.5)."

  • Nice quick overview, I’m in between, this 50c and the Fender Blues Jr. IV, could you give more of your feedback in that regard? I have a semihollow too (Sire H7 335 style) Also, the Bs Jr. costs like $200 bucks more where I live. Greetings from Perú!

  • I’ve run my Pod Go into the effects loop of my Origin 20C. It gave me lots of tone options. The 20C ran out of headroom though for one of our loudest pub gigs. The 50 would probably be killer in that application.

  • If the blues Jr was a tweed, should have kept it but I’m biased because I’ve modded mine and it’s my “ride or die” amp.
I had the origin 20 and traded it for the 50, I needed more clean headroom, and I think these are really underrated amps.

  • Interesting, I have Vox AC4TV and it has beautiful cleans that stay clean at very high volumes for bedroom. Actually one of the best cleans I ever had (and I had a lot of tube amps).

  • Wow that’s freaking unbelievable!! ???? thanks for sharing this ???? looking for a clean usable amp to use with my semi hollow. I’ve also tried like the 1 and 5 watt blackstar and didn’t like it either. Man I couldn’t believe it when you started playing and it was so low. How does it sound at a louder volume?
