  • I build hand wired point to point amps but I practice on my PC using nothing but free amplitube plugins. Side note, effects aren't part of your "tone" unless you have a boost or OD that you never turn off.

  • Gear is a great way to spark some creativity but just don't go stupid with it. Also if you don't like how you sound with the guitar unplugged then you're never gonna like it when plugged into any amount of gear

  • This can be applied to every instrument, as well as and especially studio gear. It's real easy to get lost in the sauce of gear instead of focusing on performing better.

  • My most popular electric guitar song is literally just ONE pedal (Bleak District Electric RecHead V2) and my Orange 20RT practice amp. Nothing else. Most guitar tones are far simpler than what people make them out to be. For example, my favorite album 'Count Your Blessings', has most of its tone from a Marshall amp and TS808 circuit. That is only TWO pedals you need to be close on recreating that sound.

  • Yeah maybe I don't need that crate blue voodoo tube amp, plus I rarely got a shit about my guitar tone all I care about is sounding good melodically like Marty Friedman

  • I'm so glad someone finally said it.
your $3k mahogany guitar will sound the same ass a $400 no-name as long as it stays in tune and has the same pickups
    Everything else is fluff.

  • 4:56 it’s true. The room provides reverb a lot of the time and delay helps enough with sustain

  • when I went to MI, John 5 did a concert/clinic, and he did it all on one of the shitty solid state fender amps the school had mic'd up to the PA. Sounded great.

  • Evh in a interview once said that if you have a great amp, a guitar that feels/plays good, and you have good pickups than you don't need distortion and all these pedals

  • Tone isnt the problem for most musicians, its just a lack of education in sound design, mixing, compression, and other things that make music great.
