  • 2:35 says it is in dropped D tuning. So doesn't demonstrate the actual sound of this guitar in std tuning. Seems not to be a good choice for demo review of this instrument. Mahogany usually gives a brighter chirpier sound rather then this duller flat sound.

  • Nice review, but I'm surprised you keep repeating the wrong figure for the nut – it's not 1 3/4" – the RO's (000) have 1 3/4", but the ROS models are even wider, at 1 13/16". I have a ROS-616 and a 000 and I'm surprised you can't feel the difference.

  • @yhenry77 I agree, yhenry.
One of my uncles got a D-127 and the other a D-227 and had I not played them this summer, there is no way you could have convinced me that a guitar that cheap could compete with guitars 3 times the price. They do. I was blown away by the craftsmanship, detail, action and sound. It was unbelievable. Built like a Martin with the same wood and details. I sold my Larrivee and I am going to be getting a RK (probably the 127 but I might get the 227.

  • I recently received Recording King RD-227 as a gift. I have owned and played many brands of acoustic guitars over the years: Yamaha, Takamine, Ovation, Martin, Gibson etc. I have been playing guitar for 30 years and must say this Recording King guitar rivals the best of the best! The guitar mimics the Martin D-28 pre-war model with astonishing sound (great sustain). I amazed at the overseas quality craftsmanship, abalone inlay and solid woods used in the guitar.

    Costs about 600.00 – 700.00 usd

  • @DannyGoneAndPop: Thanks for the kind words. I recorded the tune on my "Postcards" CD, and there are previews available on iTunes and cdbaby.com. I don't think there's a full-length version online, and since it's not an original of mine, I probably won't put one up. You should also check out Duck Baker's original, which is better than my version!

  • MR. Gerken,

If you would please, consider posting a video of your playing the complete 'Old World' to your Youtube channel? I love the song and have listened to this review many times just to hear it. I'd like very much to hear the complete song and to enjoy it without the review getting in the way,

  • I own one of these lovely instruments. Well done, cosmetically – no glue blobs, stain artifacts, and the frets are well manicured (you won't cut yourself on this baby). Really great playability, a nice wide neck, good balance, and a deep, woody tone. It's a fantastic fingerstyle guitar, and a good strummer, as well. I'm trying to think of any badness that I can mention, but I just can't. This is a very high quality instrument, don't be fooled by the price. Recommended.

  • I have said it before , but no one seems to want to listen; why don't you play something that more clearly shows off the merits of the guitar rather than the player??
