I would like to see a similar comparison next time all manufacturers release their "new and improved" amps.
Only next time, only clean sounds by a player who plays similar to Albert Lee.
I would have thought the Katana would have scored higher. But I think the Vox with a 12" speaker would be hard to beat.
Great review again! Love to see Chapper is back. Only a few observations from the event which could make a difference in selecting a preferred one. The Orange sounds much more like an amp I would chose since it's closer to the tone I prefer. However, it all depends on one's playing style. For instance, reviews such as "Will it Chug" are useless for me since I would never play with such a sound (it does though fill a niche for the ones who prefer the style). Chappers of course plays wonderfully well. He's a more recent style of player that I am and it shows with his predilection for a brown sound. In my case, I'm an old guy who plays since the sixties. An evaluation would require something akin to Paul Kossoff's sound and tone with a Gibson style, or a Blackmore one with a Strat. different equalization plays an important role. Another parameter which could be explored. I always thought the Orange Crush 35 should have featured a 12" instead of the 10". The 20W version contains a 8". The 35W would benefit from a 12" in my opinion. I'm curious about the Hiwatt. I hope Anderson's does an evaluation soon.

Would love to see a comparison with all these modeling amps in a direct recording shootout for those of us who want to record music but maybe live in an apartment or don’t have the setup, correct room, or the know how on how to get a solid miked up amp recording. That’d be a banger of a show.????

From a personal taste, I liked the Orange one especially the clean tone, it had so much dept all around.
The blackstar was interesting, its a solid amp and there's nothing you can really have against it, but it is does not stand out enough.
the vox was solid though.
Can you do a video on blindfolds? I'm hesitating between goggles and bandana. Which one takes pedals well?
I stay hating on Marshalls solid state amps. Worst amps ever made. I’d even rather have a Line 6 Spider for the shits and giggles, because at least I can go “awe look at this thing”. I just get pissed off when I see a Marshall MG lol
I literally agree with every single word spoken by Rob in this video. The Vox simply sounds amazing. I used to have a VT20 for a while which I loved but it became still too big to be my bedside amp so I now use a tiny Vox Mini 5 which still manages to move tremendous amounts of air with its diminuitive speaker. It too sounds brilliant for what it is (and does so without a fancy Valvetronix circuitry). I think, in fact, it may even sound as good as some of the guys we heard in this video.
I own a Marshall and a Laney (full tube) too but if only for convenience, the little Vox is my usual go-to amp.
The Vox amps I have (and had) were so convincing by the way that they also turned me onto their guitars and to add to the experience their SSC-55 instantly replaced my Gibson SG '61 Reissue as my most used guitar. It's just fantastic, too.
I had a katana and it is a great amp, however, presets sound really bad out of the box, you have to really spend time on it to make it sound great. Having said that, I sold it for the new Yamaha THRIi 30, no regrets.

I’ve owned a Code 50 and it still to this day is one of the most finicky/Sharp/thin sounding amps I’ve ever played.
It would be a better test if you had the amps on either side of Rob, the closest almost always wins in your tests.
I love your videos for the most part, and I love the tones created by this particular amp, but please, please don't pretend that you are not familiar with the VOX VT40X, as you try to do near the end (at the 35:25 mark). You did a lengthy video several years ago, with Rob playing guitar, where you were touting the great qualities of this amp, and even the looks (probably a commercially sponsored video–at least Google thinks so). I'll forgive you for your faulty memories (or selectively faulty memories), because your shootouts, especially the blindfold shootouts are fantastic and valuable. And Rob sure knows his way around the guitar and rig-equipment, and with the blindfold on, we get an honest, objective evaluation. Fun, fun, fun! Keep up the great work.
Good that Rob could pick out the Orange even blindfolded, for those unaware, way back in the day, long before YouTube and Reddit, back in the days of the Orange website forum, he was their endorsed demo artist.
Hands down the vox won for me! It just sounded so much more full.
I bought a Valvetronix about 8 years ago for bedroom practice (my Vox AC30 too loud). I remember in the shop expecting a really compromised tone, but was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded. Still have it, still good to go.

I bought a Bugera practice amp years ago. It’s tube. It has three different wattage options; .1 watts, 1 watt and 5 watts so you can definitely play and get good sound at low enough volume to not piss off your neighbors if you’re in an apartment or condo or your wife in a house at odd hours. It sounds amazing clean for what it is and takes pedals well. I would record with it and I think I paid $100 bucks for it. It was definitely under $200.
Anderton man cant EQ high gain and it makes me violently upset
I bought the Vox as one of the first amps I got when I started guitar. I didn't like it because it was noisy and it's difficult to use because of all the tiny dark controls on top where you can't see them. I don't recall much about the sound, but I didn't have anything to compare it to. I'm kind of surprised that they haven't updated the Vox technology because it felt dated when I had one about seven years ago.

I’m a Vox guy myself 🙂 I have an AC30 and a Cambridge 50 ( which is very similar to the Valvetronix played here )

I had a Crate V18 and it had the same crunch as the Vox .. I upgrade to a Badit Silver Strip and it rips like a Marshal and a clean like a Fender Twin.
Love these blindfold tests. The preconceptions are overcome and just the performance matters. Love that the Vox and the Blackstar performed well. I’ve had both forever.
At College they used to have peavey bandits and vox vt20s or 40s can't remember which and, honestly, to this day, they are the best soubding amps I've ever played. The vts knocked the socks off the bandits, in truth, they were just a tad unreliable.
Vox has the fullest, the fattest sound…
