An Inside Look at the Classic Tones of the Ampeg Heritage B-15
Video by Garth Fielding
“This is an instrument. It’s an amplifier…but I really consider this an instrument, as it’s a complete expression of what you are trying to do as a bass guitarist or producer.” – Garth Fielding
Ampeg endorser, Garth Fielding, recently sent us one hell of a video. He recently bought one of our limited-edition, US-made Heritage B-15s and loved it so much, he wanted to show the world why it was so amazing.
Garth walks you through the tonal palette of the Heritage B-15, with great examples of classic tones from the ’60s and ’70s. He shows you how to pull those tones out of the amp and really is able to re-create the classic vibe that has made the B-15 the most recorded amp in history.
So, check it out. If you have a B-15 of any era, I guarantee you will want to go and play around with it after watching. If you don’t own a B-15…well, then you better go find one.
If you like Garth…and we do…check out his bass and producer work over at www.garthfielding.com.

They did not make many heritage so 99.999% of us will never own one…. A well presented video… but why demo it when we will never own one?
This comments section is weird. Imagine saying Garth Fielding sucks at bass. ????
One of the best demos I have watched. Great balance of good playing, technical information and history.
Ampeg! Make more of these!
yikes maybe get a guy who can actually play to demonstrate it?
I got the Ampeg SGT-DI today, playing it on my jazz 5, the b15 emulator sounds very similar to this real tube amp. Very happy of my purchase
Wow…. sounds… just like any halfway decent bass.
I’m sure the Epiphone Jack Casady bass would sound good through this also.
Ridiculously old guy says; The thunky P-Bass sound at the end of the video is the best!
Sorry, I was commenting on the previous video> But still applies here.
????
Wonderful tone, but those old 60’s originals were only suitable for recording and the smallest of gigs, playing at low volumes, because if you turned up, they farted out drastically. I’ve owned three of them. I’d be interested in how this reproduction holds up on stage with anything more than an acoustic band…
Oh, and Carol Kaye told me that she couldn’t remembered using one of these flip top ampegs during her career in Southern Ca.
They didn't use amps at Motown, all bass was Di'd
Awesome sound. Love it.
Unless I start playing 60’s Motown, I’ll stick with my Darkglass AO900.
How much of that tone is the maple neck?
Lol I believe it sounds good but you don’t have any idea how to capture it correctly
Want .
BEAUTIFUL SOUND ! VERY VINTAGE AND WARM ! THANKS !
Ahh yes. Doesn't the sound of the pick and fret buzz sound good? You have a B-15 and you didn't play any Jamerson. Sad.
Making only 50 of these was really retarded ampeg….
Hair stood on end for the '64 tones.
I thought jamerson went straight to the desk?
Do you use flats or tapewounds, on this video???? Thank u
BTW: A great video, great sounds with this amp and with this player and bass ….
I am wondering what difference is between this amp and the new PF50T …
Why on earth would you demo a bass with roundwounds through this amp?
had a 66 wish I had it now …. and my Harmony Rocket from then as well ..
