Analogman – King of Tone Overdrive & Distortion Pedal

This is the Analogman King of Tone Overdrive & Distortion Pedal. It’s one of the most hyped pedals on the internet for electric guitar players.

Check out the official site – https://www.analogman.com/kingtone.htm (worst website design of all time btw).

  • I like your clean tone better. However, it is a really nice pedal but way, way overpriced.

  • I think I'll pass… but then again, you demoed with the gain pegged. Once you backed the left side down, you pegged the volume, pushing the amp… not a fair demo.

Blues is all about balance, not too much, not too little when it comes to grit. So many great legends used no pedals at all.

    I search on.

  • Watched a lot of your vids lately. Just realised you are the least bias guitar reviewer by a long shot.

  • I had a Prince of Tone. It was a really good pedal…But i remember not being able to tame the highs on it. It had a really piercing high end in many settings. I ultimately sold it. It never ends..

  • This pedal is very cool but ways too expensive — the Wampler TQ Dual Fusion is basically the same concept (two OD type stacked) but half price with more voicing options (+ modern tones)

  • Iโ€™ve got a box of overdrives I donโ€™t use anymore. The King Of Tone has replaced them all except a tube screamer that I keep on my board to get a completely different flavor. They compliment each other very well and I run the boost side of the KOT with the tube screamer to make a great saturated tone. For those who arenโ€™t aware, both sides of the KOT can be set to either boost, overdrive, or distortion by simply changing dip switches inside the pedal. Iโ€™m not sure why this important fact isnโ€™t mentioned often in reviews. I run the left side as a boost and the right as an overdrive and had Analogman install the higher gain chip in the right side. It is a factory option. In front of my Marshall 1962HW it sounds incredible.

  • I've seen the Analogman interview and he says the pedal is not designed for quiet playing. He said he's had a few comments about it not sounding good at low amp levels.
Just some advice for the bedroom player who wants to treat themselves.
This obviously isn't a demo available pedal either, unless your mate has one.
    Bottom line, research!

  • Any guitar player who doesn't get on the wait list for a King of Tone needs their head read. When your number comes up, get one, and if you don't like it, sell it on for three times what you paid or more. I'm 6 months away. I'll be getting the maximum (four). One to play, two to sell to get the purchase price back, and one to keep as an investment. When Mike stops making them, they'll be worth more than Klons

  • Yeah it's very, very good. But is it worth the "hype"? Ehhhhh……nah. Not really. Not unless you are earning your living solely from guitar work, then I can understand why you'd absolutely have to get one of these.
UAS King of Blues that'll do me. He'll even do one with half BB/half-klon.

  • I am about to come up on the waiting list. Worth trying ย . .no way I can lose as the re-sale value is there. Have three high gain pedals and Fulltone FullDrive II , I am hoping the KOT will oust the Fulldrive II

  • Honestly I just don't really hear anything special about this pedal [soundwise], as far as any online demos, it's hard to tell unless you have it in front of you. I really don't care for fuzz but is it better souning than the KTR or the Superbolt? Anyone know?

  • Thanks for doing the demo! I just got one and wonder if you changed any of the factory settings inside the pedal? I don't get as much of the distortion as you seem to get. Thanks for any help!

  • I was disappointed of the demo. I think you should have focus on the pedal and exercise the dials, you had the distortion full up for some time. I got the just in1 minute what the sound was full up. I wanted to know what the pedal was capable interns of tone.

  • Is it worth all the hype? I don't know. Probably not. But the hype isn't the fault of the guys who are making the pedal. This is our economy at work. It's worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. It sounds pretty damn good to me but I've got plenty of awesome OD distortion boxes.

  • over priced and over hyped !!!!…. Does nothing different than any pedal you can get for a third the price… get an angry charlie.. or a Mod tone fuzz… or an OCD.. You're just fooling yourself if you're really thinking there's any difference…

  • Ive always wondered why the graphics were so bad. They look like they were drawn on by hand with a gold paint pen. Several I've seen in the wild are nearly missing the graphics because they've rubbed off.

  • Honestly you sounded better without the effects, maybe you have to be able to play the instrument first before worrying about a whole array of gimmicky pedals. That squire sounds nice.

  • What amp are you using for this demo, tells alot about the sound if knowing ?

  • All Clon clones sound bad until you hear an "original" clon pedal and realize that even that sucked ๐Ÿ™‚
Having said that I think this pedal is a "fine pedal" its just that the high end frequencies in this demo were a bit harsh.. probably due to the mike settings or something. The sensitivity of the pedal seems to be cool though…. Thank you for another fine Demo
