  • If the Tone Master line were in the 500USD range, then they would make sense.

  • IMHO, (though I love many of Fender's products) Fender is completely overpriced in almost every area of equipment that they sell, and this amp, though it does sound o.k. is not worth the $1500. price tag…AT ALL!
I appreciate your honesty at the end of your vid and I personally have many, many modeling amps as well that I use for practice or just sitting around the house and noodling, and I still believe (for the money), that the new Katana 50 or 100 does everything you will ever need at a fraction of the cost i.e. $300.00 to $400.00 + tax.
Having said all that, for stage or any live performance, I will always gravitate towards any of my Fender tube amps or Marshalls. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace.

  • I bought a 59 RI Bassman in 1990 brand new for 650.00 ! I got the 159th one made ,still have it ,caps were replaced,l use it for Harmonica ! I will never sell it ! Tubes of course! 1500.00 for a digital amp is not for me…..

  • The '59 Tone Master Bassman guitar amp (which I bought yesterday) is a vast improvement over the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb (which I have had for a few years, with the USB updates). I just wish the attenuation settings were foot-switchable. Fender is not laughing. You pay for serious R&D. Quad core. 1 core for amp, 2 cores for convolution reverb, and 1 core for IR. IR 1 is SM57. IR 2 is Royer 421. IR 3 is blend. The effects loop is brilliant, placed perfectly in the signal path. Real wood cabinet for tuned tone. Katana uses MDF (sawdust and glue). The '59 Tone Master Bassman is $2,000.00 Canadian.

  • my tonemaster deluxe takes drive pedals as good as the custom deluxe I have right next to it. I've gigged with my tonemaster a few times very happy with the results and the sound men love just using the direct out.

  • Modeling and Digi stuff is good but YOU REALLY CAN'T GET THE ACTUAL VIBE that the wood cabs and tubes actually get ! I use both but theres a real difference and yeah I'll lug my gear to gig to get that vibe

  • Just plain GREED ALA GIBSON!! WHY NOT SO MANY " COLLECTOR GUITAR PLAYERS! LOL the ones who now got fat plastic and real jobs!! So they push the prices way up screwing us gigging musician s out of good quality gear ughhhhhh

  • This amp serves a need. Many players, like myself, don’t want 1,000 sounds, and don ‘t want to dig through menus, endlessly tweaking. I want to plug in and play. When I gig, same thing. I want a reliable amp that sounds like I expect without the fuss. Fender has done that. And with the Tonemaster, it’s lighter and more reliable than tube amps. The D.I. means I don’t have to mic it up.
Then people bitch about the price. Well, then don’t buy it. But I look at it this way: I buy an amp for the sound, not for contents of the cabinet. If it sounds good to me, I don’t care what’s inside, and that’s what I am willing to pay for.

  • Hey John, I think a lot of people miss the point of these amps. In my opinion, they sound and more importantly feel, really good. I'd argue for most people's needs, they sound better. Most people aren't in a position to play their amps as loud as the guys from That Pedal Show and the video you reference is years old, Fender rolled out a firmware fix since. I can sit in my house and turn the volume of my TMD Blonde to 7 and not blow out my windows. A lot of people won't even be able to get the tube version past 2 in their house without complaints.

These amps are lighter,, allow for better sound at lower volumes, have a direct out and the ability to turn the cab off for silent recording or playing with headphones and they still look like a fender amp. They allow people who want to leverage modern technology without choice paralysis and right out the box, it sounds better than any bit of Line 6 gear (which I own a lot of) and feels better too as it's moving air from the cab. I'm happy to pay what they're charging for what is for my needs at least, a superior product to their valve amps and I welcome the subtle modern features they're adding with the Bassman such as the vintage/tight button and the fx loop.

  • Tube reissues vs original blackface or tweed units.. There is a canyon between them. I have found that the Tonemaster versions acoustically as in “in a room through the speaker at full wattage” sound closer to blackface and tween (vintage) models than tube reissues. Where they fall off of a cliff for me in terms of value is that the DI into a daw and even mic’ing them for recording doesn’t sound right. For some reason, they sound like solid state amps once going through a mic or the DI. And by that I mean, zero sag and very obviously treble sizzle. And now, with the arbitrary hike in cost (especially for Canadians).. I have no reason to look at Tone masters nor reissues. There is nothing tempting to me about owning two hunks for shit vs one of the greatest amps ever made. It should be noted that I would not buy a modelling amp for any reason other than knowingly making a compromise and not having any choice due to where I live or who lives with me or reaching an age where my hearing is so shot and the band I’m in is so inconsequential gear wise that I have no reason to face the trials and tribulations of antique audio equipment.

  • HELL YES I WOULD… I don't care what's inside it.. It's the PERFECT Blues Gig Amp.. AND its all the soul of a OG Bassman PLUS.. A lot of Cool Extras that Gigging Musicians Need and want.. ( i own a Deluxe Tonemaster ).. did a gig Right Next to a guitar player with a Real one.. Could not tell the difference..

  • It’s a lot of money at full rrp, but like the TMDR, it’ll be a lot more affordable once a few of them are out on the secondhand market. I paid £650 for a virtually brand new TMDR (complete with original box and all the bits) in February 2020. They’d been on the market about six months at the time and the rrp was about £900. I’m also a harmonica player and I’d be REALLY interested to hear a TM Bassman used for harp.

  • The real question should be: would you pay $1500 for a "throw away ", unrepairable piece of crap that has as much in common with a 59' Bassman as a Chevy and will be worth nothing as soon as it's driven off the lot…

  • Not for $1500, now add a opto/bias/harmonic tremolo, that would get me thinking.
My "dream amp" currently is a tweed/bassman with the harmonic tremolo and reverb.
That could be a "desert island" amp for me

  • That is Eminence Front by The Who. I love tht progression and especially your playing lead. You have edge but also your low side sounds clean.

  • everyone talks about how they sound, but never mentions that they feel like shit. i played some several times and they all feel fake.

  • It's a shame they make digital clones, that don't sound like the original amps, and they sell them a fortune.
You can buy roland cube or boss katana for example, they wont sound worse, and much cheaper.

  • a tube amp is a tube amp and nothing will ever compare to it I'd rather buy a Fender blues deluxe and it's even cheaper and it's a tube combo

  • I have a tube Super Reverb reissue and a Super Reverb Tonemaster. I'd trade out the tube Super for this TM Bassman, tempting.

  • Tried gigging with a Katana twice, all clean tones- after 30 minutes there was something in the high end that just pierced thru me. No pedals, just straight in and it just grated one me. Sold it and went with a fender pro junior iv and no such problems.
I think sitting around the house for practice it was fine but on a gig where you’re competing with a three piece band the digitalness kicks in and hurts.

  • I have a Bassman preset on my Fender Mustang II and I like the tone. I use pedals for all the effects.

  • I want to recreate the Brothers in Arms tone as far as I can ie Bassman.
I have a Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb and it is much more versatile than a tube DR because it has built in attenuation for home use, whereas the tube version has to be bloody loud to get it to sing.
    Also it’s lighter to carry.
