I know we talked over the music the whole time. I realize that. Did I truly “LISTEN” to the album…maybe not. Did it matter…no.
However, you are a REAL ONE and I thank you for at least staying long enough to leave a nasty comment about us talking too much!

They also recorded with four track machines, but would dub them down as they needed more tracks. So, one four track tape would be mixed and sent to a single track on another tape. This gave them technicislly infinite tracks, but in practice it becomes very expensive and I'm sure you get signal degradation every time you dub, however little it is each time.
I will say, I am a huge proponent to listening to the mono mix on this album, as well as most Beach Boys albums/songs. Brian is nearly completely deaf in one ear, so, in my mind, it's impossible to have any stereo mix faithfully convey his intention. Especially considering the fact that he was very specific in how he wanted this album to sound, the stereo mix cannot accurately represent Brian's vision, just the remixer's interpretation. I will say, though, that listening in stereo makes it easier to pick out different parts that are normally buried in the original mono mix. Authentic or not, it helps analyze the tracks.
How can this guy critisize Brian Wilson most of what he's going on about Brian was the one who created it! This guy thinks he's Murry I'm a genius to Wilson!!
Brian mixed the original in mono, He is deaf in one ear and cannot hear stereo!
On Wouldn't It Be Nice, they plucked the strings from inside the piano, not a harp.
Some decent insights sprinkled in here and there, but I think the dude on the left's lack of knowledge and apathetic demeanour prevented a more thoughtful discussion. For example on your point on recording in mono, Brian Wilson is actually deaf in one ear so everything he hears is in mono, which makes some of the sounds even more impressive, it also creates a more impressionistic not strictly naturalistic tone.
you guys were probably listening to the 1996 stereo mix or 50th anniversary mix, the album never got a proper stereo mix until then
Beatles didn't record their longer songs until after this album.
Hit Surf's Up from it's self titled album for longer classic from them……..
Mono Mix is the legend. Stereo version came out much later…
Used multiple studios nt main studio was only 4 Tracks…
I personally find the album is much better when you read the lyrics along.
Well,you still haven’t listened to it,have you?
"Patrick Musilek: 'But that to me wasn't very impressive.' " with regard to "WOULDN'T IT BE NICE".
Goodbye, you are a waste of time.
You should do a video on smile.
Brian Wilson sings the falsetto parts on Sloop John B. Bruce Johnson has a very interesting tenor voice that helped their sound, most notably at the end of God Only Knows. Johnston famously first appeared in studio for California Girls. And also wrote and sang lead on Disney Girls 1957.
Mike Love sang the bass parts. And he also had an almost 2nd voice as the nasally lead voice for California Girls, Surfin USA, Surfin Safari, you get the idea.
That's Not Me has Mike Love on lead vocals. God Only Knows has Carl Wilson on lead.
A sound engineer who's never heard Pet Sounds, the most iconic album of all time next to Sgt. Pepper….in the words of the immortal Casey Kasem: "ponderous, fuckin ponderous."
Not everyone shares the same opinion of it. I find Pet Sounds pretty close to unlistenable. As bland and lackluster as listening to Taylor Swift.
I feel like Pet Sounds would lose some of its ethereal dreamy quality without the fade-outs imo
Track 1 Lead vocal was Brian with Mike Love, 2 was Brian, 3 was Mike with Brian, 4 & 5 were Brian, 6 Instrumental and 7 was Brian & Mike. Side 2: Track 1 was Carl Wilson with Brian & Bruce Johnston, 2 was Mike with Al Jardine & Brian, 3 was Mike, 4 was Brian, 5 Instrumental and 6 was Brian ( and released on single as a Brian solo song). Also, Sloop John B was never intended for this album but the company didn't think any of the other songs had hit record potential.
Hear "all i wanna do" the production is great!
To much talking
How about being quiet and just listening without yapping over the music every two seconds. The 'Audio" engineer did not hear Pet Sounds for the first time cause he wouldn't shut up.
A lot of record players were mono even in the 70s.
wtf when i was a huge metallica fan a few years ago i listened to you hear all those for the first time (admittedly i'm barely a fan anymore) but now that i'm a few years deep in being a major beach boys fan, and having it pretty much become a key part of my personal life now i see you doing this! crazy
edit: can't wait to hear you possibly listen to surfs up or friends! also watch love and mercy. its the only good beach boys biopic and it has a lot of really cool recreated scenes of brian creating this album!
also good vibrations was released on smiley smile after almost being on the unreleased smile album which i feel on both records it would have belonged far more than the more grounded nature of pet sounds.
Every song on Pet Sounds has arraignments that sounds like it's creator was insane at the time. That's why i love it. It's a weird album. Who would use a bass-harmonica? It's on this album.
