In this sneak peek of Tom Lord-Alge’s ‘Inside the Track’ series he shares his techniques to get a full and rich guitar sound.
Join the iconic rock engineer Tom Lord-Alge, mixer of alternative and punk anthems from Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Hanson, and many more. In this series, we sit alongside Tom as he digs into the multi-track session of Sum 41’s breakthrough release, ‘Fat Lip’. At Studios La Fabrique, he overviews the original analog recording and mixing process, demonstrates how the audio can be enhanced in the digital realm, and reveals his tricks for effective drum separation, sample triggering, flanging, and more. Operating in the box with console summing, you’ll see Tom’s daring use of effects, heavy compression, clever editing and EQ within Pro Tools. He also covers the important subjects of session setup and management, phase coherency, and gain staging with faders versus plug-ins. To finish off, TLA compares his three mixes – the analog original, the new hybrid (ITB with analog summing and mix compression), and the new digital (100% ITB).

Ik multimedia? Wth. That stuff is janky.
That's a DI bass?? Or sounded amped before it was amped! Anyone know what bass it is? I need it.
It’s funny how much he sounds like Chris. It’s almost impossible to distinguish haha
Jesus him and Chris have the SAME voice. Couldn't tell them apart.
i don't hear the cymbals … guitars and bass sound great !!!
Here's derek's opening guitar
He turned into underbelly for a sec
u know what is wrong with this guy? he love music! he can even trade his family time with music the way i see his acting when he plays his mixing! the same here????????
Watching these videos explains so much and rarely teaches me anything, but mainly that I can't afford the plug-ins he uses.
1:15 awful
Note that this is an excellent simple guitar arrangement. I could stand to simplify
looking at the camera, wait a beat, and say "fuck it" so funny.
So, again.
wow. ????????????
This shows how amazing Jerry Finn was
The world's most expensive computer desk! C'mon lets see that board in action!

I'm a big fan of this guy.
Well, that was awesome… Learned A LOT there… Damn…
Simply Amazing!!
This guy explains things SO much better than his brother. Love it!
Those little bits where you hear the entire mix sound incredibly good and so much better than the actual record, I wish he remixed the entire song and released it.
take a hit everytime he says again
i love the way Tom enjoys the music while mixing tracks. Really helps creativity to the next level.
rock and roll
Useful
Love this guy! Great stuff.
Tom Lord-Alge is awsome!
Wait what
This was on autoplay for me in the background and then I hear the In Too Deep riff
Niiiiice
If you get this session, do you get the stems/raw tracks so you can mix it yourself? Or is it just a video of him mixing it?
remember it all starts with a great band.and nori was hungry and still is.CANADIAN
Live – Throwing Copper
God Bless you Tom Lord Alge for mixing an historic album ????
Possibly the best distortion face
I got chills all over my body when the rhythm guitars hit in the intro, so heavy
What band/song is this?
Amplitube/ ewww
Can’t believe that hi-end engineers using cheap shitty Waves plugins instead of high-end sounding Acustica Audio
He doesn't compress his guitars or limit them?
