Yes, Matt wrote the bassline. He used to play it on guitar during the Origin of Symmetry tour, then he tried it on bass and realized it sounded better. Chris' stamina is insane!
It's funny to me because while I think Matt Dominated Muse in the early days, I think the drummer and the bassist have gotten better and Matt has gotten worse.
There's normally 4 of them on stage. Morgan Nicholls is doing percussion work on this tour. I was there for the first night at Wembley 2007. Immense gig.
As someone who's been in a Muse tribute band as the bassist, the bass also has a saw wave played on top as a backing track. As much as I loved playing the song it never got any easier and was an endurance test for sure! We used to finish the song with the Reapers outro (but in E) which was a good 'warm down' for my fingers.
