Commonly used tonewoods in bass guitars:

– poplar
*mahogany is regarded as a fairly heavy tonewood, however, its variation used in – mainly – modern basses are really lightweight.

I've had basses with each of these wood types for bodies except poplar and my swamp ash is definitely the heaviest. The basswood and mahogany are the lightest. The heaviest bass I ever had was a Warwick Corvette 5 string. It had a solid bubinga body and it weighed 20 pounds lol You couldn't stand and play it and sitting it would put your leg to sleep in 15 minutes.
Basswood (aka Linden tree or Tileuil) is in the wrong place…
i had an all Maple guitar that used to give me shoulder issues. i couldnt play it much longer than 20 minutes at a time as it was too heavy. basswood on the other hand is as light as poplar, without hardware.

Bought 2 types of tonewoods for my bass project. In this instance, the alder is much heavier than the basswood
There something wrong with this comparison. Basswood should be lighter than mahogany, alder, and ash wood. Basswood and poplar are almost the same lighter and mahogany is the heaviest.
what is the x axis for though
Mahogany is the heaviest of all.
You couldn't pay me to use a heavy bass.
