  • I’ve been using the boss bass BC 1x, for over a year now live every single weekend I play 3 services for a mega church in Las Vegas almost every weekend most of the time, it’s a big production environment.

I use a Stingray 5HH special or a Sadowsky jazz bass, a Genzler Magellan DI box, I have the boss compressor set before the DI box, and I have to say it really improved my tone big time, I noticed the volume on all my strings is equal, it has good high-end clarity, good mids and tight lows, and it seems to level out the volume on all the strings, so when I go to play stuff on the high strings, it cuts through and stands out, and the low end sounds very clean, and not too rumbly, like I said, it sounds tight in the low end and punchy, it really cleans up the sound and brings it into focus, the clarity is amazing, I leave this compressor on 100% of the time now, this is the best bass compressor I’ve ever used, and it does not suck my tone or squash it too much, it really leaves the bass tone intact and does not change the character of the instrument, , I have tried other compressors, but none of them were close to this one, I will never get rid of this boss pedal.

  • Nice idea, but with both pedals having LEDs that show how much they are compressing, you can see significant differences in how they are set. If one pedal is lighting the -20 LED and the other only occasionally gets to -10, you're hearing the differing amounts of compression as much or more than the differences between the two devices. In general, there's more high end coming through on the MXR, which may be why some people see it as more natural.

  • The boss bc sounds so much better, smoother and more natural.
Cannot understand why all reviews say the mxr is the better one. Maybe they are deaf? ????????

  • Becos Compressor Mini caught my eye ( and ear ). Also the Empress Bass compressor Any feedback from users ???

  • failed comparision . your setting of two compressor is not the same and the gain reduction very difference , boss only -3 db while mxr was -10 db , that 's why boss sound more clearity

  • Was looking forward to this comparison, but when you look at knobs, you can see the two comps are never dialed in the same in any of the examples. Especially ratio and release are completely different in all cases. Impossible to compare the comps like this. Next time just pay attention.

  • Is this just me or I feel MXR cuts the low end little bit? I noticed between bypass & MXR, when MXR is on, I noticed low end becomes "slightly" less boomy.

  • Been using the MXR for 5 years and so I'm liking it more on this video, but I really want to try the Boss one cause I love Boss pedals.

  • Seems like the mxr is louder overall compared to the boss, in some of the clips they should've maxed out the volume on the boss to keep the same volume as the dry signal in high compression settings, otherwise a nice demo! I'd probably choose the mxr due to more make up gain and better control of the attack vs the boss

  • The "threshold" knob on the Boss has the same functionality as the "input" knob on the MXR, right? If wrong, please explain.

  • It always seems to me like the MXR pedals sound more natural, whereas the Boss pedals seem like there is an active effect on the bass. Both are great, depending on whether you want to sound natural or have effect.

  • This is such a hard choice. Can't go wrong with either one which is why I can't decide on one of these compressors.
