  • Regarding muting and finger position I've already seen 3 different options in 5 months (that's the time I've been learning bass) and I've changed it one time, it was hard to get used to the new technique, given I'd just started. But now I see there's even another option. What shoud I do? I had just gotten so used to playing with my thumb on the string that goes directly over the one I'm using, but I think this way that's shown in the video might work best for me, given the fact that my fingers are hypermobile, problem is they're also so short xDDD. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant, I think I'll find the right way for me in due time.

  • This is probably the most concise and clear yet effective and complete first lesson I’ve ever seen! It even includes proper muting ????

  • I just got my first bass and this video has helped me out a lot on getting started. I can see myself improving in speed and efficiency and I'm glad I started with this instead of trying to keep up with tabs

  • Not me learning how to properly place my right hand after 18 years of playing…

  • Hey Nate, I need advice. I'm going to buy one of your books but can't figure which one. I'm interested in learning modern/metal techniques especially and plan on getting a 5 string but currently only have two 4 strings ( one set up BEAD). Just trying to see which would be more beneficial. Thanks!

  • Good surprises are the best. I've tried to be a guitar player for..ever and at the rate I'm going I'll have to live until the next millennia to have any fun with it. I've recently picked up a bass and just messing around and I'm having fun with it. I figured what the heck and watched the "beginner" lesson and learned alot. I stumbled across your channel and liked it immediately. I was really surprised to find out that you are a real bass player????. Then it was no surprise why you were so good. So, just wanted to say thanks and I'll be hanging around here for a while. Cheers

  • This is hands down the best beginner's bass lesson I've watched so far. I've been watching bass clips for beginners for over the past month (bought the bass back then) and this clip made me want to buy his book. Keep on rocking, Nate. Thanks very much for very clear lessons.

  • Hi Nate!
I'm learning bass by myself and got used to playing E on pickup, playing the A string with thumb on E, the D string with my thumb between E and A and the G string with thumb between A and D.
Is there anything wrong with playing this way or should I relearn it and do it your method?

  • I' m not a beginner per se (although it's always good to consider yourself one) but I have to say this (17:52) has to be the coolest beginner jam song I' ve ever listened to, I could jam to this for hours πŸ˜€
