  • I just bought this exact model of bass, about three weeks ago. I am new to bass and could not wait to get into my first bass. The knob in the middle I was thinking was a tone knob for the front pickup. I have to keep it dialed back about halfway otherwise I get a hum. What guage of string would you recommend for someone with small hands? I am having a hard time fretting notes on the E string. Thank you for this review.

  • I got this bass like 2 years ago after a break up, never played an instrument in my life, self taught my self via YouTubers and Ricksmith 2014 remaster, and im currently in the intermediate stage. It is REALLY COMFORTABLE to play, even as a bigger i played it for hours. What would you recommend keeping this one for a while or upgrade to a 5 string?

  • I think that's the first review of an instrument I've seen where the instrument never got played. Strange.

  • I have this bass in old violin burst..as an experienced player that owns 14 basses everything from the cheapest Glarry 5 string on up to american Fenders pbasses ..these 174Ew"s are spot on..the fit and finish is on par with top of the line fenders,it makes me want to buy another yamaha, if you take the neck off itll theres a stamp on the body thatll tell you exactly when your bass was made, mine was made on october 29,2019,that stamp alone isnt something you see on cheap basses let alone getting an exotic wood top which you dont see on cheap basses! My 174ew was an impulse buy from pawn shop that i do not regret one bit. One thing though the fretboard isn't rosewood its sonokeling????????

  • Planning on getting one. Never played any musical instrument, but I really like how bass sounds. I may not go for an EW tho. Anyway have fun with that bad boy

  • This is probably the best bass you can get for the money. I've played this one, and I really like it.

  • Man, I need a help.. I’m getting a noise with this guitar especially when increasing the first tone knob (treble control). When using compressor the noise is heavy, not able to record. I need help to remove the noise. Can you help?
