  • How did you guys miss the Yamaha THR5 ? Better sound than the Boss but doesn't have the looping or the drums (click) …

  • If you want a good acoustic amp and electric amp in one the Boss Katana MKII 50 actually is outstanding, I gave my acoustic amp away after I heard my acoustics played through the Katana.

  • "Air Feel?"
Come on BOSS. You guys are as bad as Line 6 with "Tube Sag." I'm so sick of modeling amps, I could "Vomit."

  • Interestingly my interest in a practice accoustic amp is for a couple of things. The increase volume when finger picking, to run through headphones adding a jam Track, to sing though a mic and be able to hear it more as someone else does. I find it hard to hear my own voice unless I record it play it back.

  • Maybe it's down to the pickup system, with Yamaha Atmosfeel there is plenty of variety to be had but really only 2 usable air feel settings. On the upside it has DI out, downside is that it does not have a FX loop so you are stuck with the built-in reverb. It's not bad but with acoustic guitars reverb is almost like an another instrument and FX loop would have helped a lot. It's a shame they don't offer the air feel thing in a separate pedal

  • It’s a rebadged less powerful Roland AC33. Owned and returned. Just no point to it. It doesn’t really help with piezo compromises. Run a BodyRez (other options available) into
Stereo AC33 which is much much louder, battery operable, looper, Roland JC Chorus effect, reverb, ambience and looper.
The mic channel is actually set up better but still no point in room where you can fit, well 5 people. I get that you can blend aux, vox and acoustic but 10w??? And the technology is app driven but give me an AD2/5/8 etc or a Zoom AC and you are beating this waste of my money but money maker for Boss.

I think Roland/Boss VP said what’s our biggest money making acoustic amp?
    Roland AC range

Okay, let’s make the cheapest one we can with an app function on the front end.
    Should we do PIEZO/MAG dial?
    Noooooo!
    Call it something else?
    Airfield?
    Sold.
What does it do? Microphone IRs?
    Nooooo!
Let’s put an eq app in the front end but call them cool names and presets.
Great. Now whatever you do, don’t save the best presets to the default. We have to give people something to do with their app finger.
    Okay ????
    Who’s this marketed at?

Well you know all this reps that work for us?
    Yeah…..
We’re going to make their job harder so they can splutter on all the sponsored pedal shows they get invited on.

We’re gonna sell loads of these.

Go on Facebook marketplace and pick up an Roland AC33 in mint condition for £250.
You can gig with it and use it as a foldback wedge.

Side by side (without knowing that there’s an app) and that Bluetooth is an optional dongle on both items, no one thought the Boss was the new amp.
Important question ????????‍♂️? Does it have a kickback stand?

Good honest moments from the reviewers. There is no reason to buy this over poorer quality brands because they all sound louder.

Boss, what the hell are you doing? It’s like you’re in cahoots with Gibson for stuffing up. ????

  • Boss katana 100 V2 acoustic setting – should have been in there. I'm using it – not bad at all!

  • This solves a problem that otherwise is complicated and expensive to solve.
Let me get used to singing in a mic while I play at home and practice playing rockstar with a mic/stand.
Playing and singing is not the same as playing and singing and hearing your vocal with reverb etc in a mix amplified back at you. That’s not something I want to experience for the first time on stage as a 3 piece ????

  • Hi,

I'm playing acoustic guitar and singing . I do have Fender 212R but now I'm thinking to buy acoustic amp. I don't use acoustic-electric guitar just a microphone (I have both dynamic and condense). I do thinking about this four amps but maybe you have better advice. I like some power (minimum 50W).

    Fender Acoustic 100 Amplifier (100W)

Marshall AS50DV 50w Acoustic Instrument Amplifier

Boss Acoustic Singer Live LT Compact Acoustic Instrument Amp

Boss Acoustic Singer Live Amplifier Combo

    Any advice?

    Many thanks,

  • The Blackstar Sonnet was my favorite…. The I didn't like the Fishman… It managed to add a little bit of the Piezo quack sound… The Bulgera sounded pretty good to me in comparison…. Don't forget you can add an impulse response pedal and make an IR of the guitar you're playing to get more accuracy with something like K&K…..

  • Rather wish more time was spent on the others. This seems to be mainly about the boss. Not much comparing here.

  • does Boss AC-22LX's looper have an undo feature? like if i have overdubbed anything, but i dont like it, can i press and hold to undo that overdub only (not the entire loop)?

  • Sir i want Loud n clear sound im confused in JBL EON & Boss Acs plz suggest me for singing and acoustic guitar plz im waiting 4ur Reply

  • I think the Boss is rather Ideal for people who want to slay in their Youtube videos. These are usually filmed at home in a spare bedroom turned into an office space. Or for those practicing at home. Not so much for loud.

  • I was told that there is a lack of sync between looper clock and the rhythm clock – you seem to be suggesting the opposite? which is good news if true – if not – its a surprising omission

  • The Boss AC22 is not a winner, trying too hard to achieve a decent sound is not what people want to deal with. I suggest get a Fishman and call it a day, they are the standard IMO. Last point, look at the body language as he plays through the Fishman, he is feeling what he's playing, you can't fake that.

  • Guys, you are doing always a great job! Ben, easy question fo a pro like you as you know all about acoustic guitars : For a J45 50's original, playing mainly at home (struming clasic rock, blues and few jazz, no country, a bit of picking), what would be your go-to? Boss or Bugera ac60 (half price on the second hand market). looper can be plugged into the Bugera, no rythm. But what about the sounds and the effects? As per your review on the Buegra, it wa quite a good one. What would be your choice?

  • I’m a flamenco guitar player and been using the Roland AC-33 for 10 years. It’s a very compact and lightweight stereo amplifier perfect for acoustic guitars and in my experience it sounds better than Bose S1 Pro and JBL EON One Compact, specially when you do the Picado/Rest Stroke technique. The speaker last around 7 hours with Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries at 70% Volume that is enough for small gigs (20 – 30 pax indoor).

I just found that there is this new BOSS AC-22LX and I wonder if it has more volume and better quality sound. Is there anyone who already got this new amp. and compared with the Roland AC-33 in a live performance?

  • The Captain is stuck in electric guitar amp mindset. I like the idea of just enhancing the guitar. I like the idea of still hearing the acoustic guitar along with the amp output separately intead of drowning out the guitar output all together. Those percussion sounds are also in the Boss Dr01 rythym partner.

  • I have to say Lee’s comments were exactly what I was thinking – several of the presets sounded worse than the dry guitar .. maybe the limits of YouTube video ..? I think this is a really honest review rather than “everything is great because we sell it” ????????

  • Boss Sound is the Best Sound. Many variations You must hear. All another Things are muttle not special thinks so Boss 22 this is true. My Ear say this and my heart love this.????????

  • at @18:17 you mention we're hearing it through the DI, to clarify all the amp sounds we're hearing in the video are through? Is there an interface you're running that into? Is it in mono or stereo? Lastly, with the mic emulators do you see this being a good usage for direct recording from those back ports? Thanks for the video!

  • That little amp has a lot of promise, though I think they missed the mark with the size… you either want to go higher wattage so you can make it a valid stage amp, or you want to lose the speaker and power amp and make it a stompbox you can just plug into your power amp or PA, either way you could get the same headphone experience. That Blackstar though… very usable as-is, good to see they do as well with acoustic as electric amps.

  • the AC-22LX is very similar to the Roland AC-33 with a few additions/ differences. I've used the AC-33 for the last 12-ish years for the exact purpose you mentioned in the video; it's fun to get lost in the acoustic sound.
A great upgrade to get a natural sound live is to get the mic & piezo pickup like the Anthem SL, or a guitar already with a mic pickup like a Maton or some of the newer Yamahas. The mic provides the airy quality and the piezo gives the punch.
imo mic-piezo combo pickup sounds good through any amp 🙂

  • Can't really swallow Boss and their "optional Bluetooth dongle" on their products. For me, this box is something I'd use for an Acoustic/Voice scenario. Depending on the size of the venue, I'd just DI it to a larger PA.

    Reply
  • Isn’t this really a DI box you can take to gigs with your tone already dialled in? If so, it kinda makes sense

  • Toss the Boss…no great loss… you can purchase a TC Helicon Harmony V60 for a little more dosh… as for the others in this video, they're just floss.

  • Believe it or not but I get a killer sound with my Custom Shop Martin HD28 with an LR Baggs pickup into my Magnatone Varsity Reverb. Definitely wasn't expecting it. Little more expensive than the Boss amp though lol
