  • Can't/won't watch this because never seen a musician ranking video that wasn't full-blown stupid, plus I need to preserve my blood pressure. There can be only one #1 and that is Buckethead (Brian Carroll). Additionally, and without even looking, 'Buck' has produced 100 times more quality music than everyone on any 'list' combined. Guthrie Govan is surely in the top 10 as too are Larry Carlton, Jeff Beck, Al DiMeola, Bettencourt, Matteo Mancuso … Slash, EVH, Clapton, May, Richards, aren't even in the top 100 but Carlos Santana certainly is. Noise, volume and flashy stage theatrics aren't music.

  • Good list, but the idea that there is a best of all time and that they can be ranked is juvenile and idiotic. You omitted Stephanie Jones who is a far better guitarist than Andrfes Segovia, You did not include one Flamenco or Gypsy Jazz guitarist, nor did you include Matteo Mancuso, Evgeny Pobozhiy Josh Meader and I could name dozens more who are far better than most guitarists you placed on your list in their particular genre.

You said Hendrix was the most influential, which is definitely true on a global scale, but neglected to mention that he was also the most poetic, visionary and wrote the most memorable songs.

  • UPDATE: I've gotten some interesting feedback on my "best guitarists" rankings. Understandably so – music taste is deeply personal! As just one fan trying to thoughtfully shoutout pioneers who pushed boundaries and influenced generations, my list has blindspots. Genres have endless worthy artists, technical skill has so many elements, and influence is multi-faceted. I aimed to spotlight certain accepted all-timers, with weighting towards innovators. But reasonable minds can differ, sometimes drastically! So I view this as a musical celebration rather than a definitive ranking. Feel free to passionately plug your own heroes – different eras and styles make direct comparison impossible anyway. My own tastes, like everyone's, are colored by my background. Help expand my perspective! But let's have fun debates rather than negativity. Now onto discussing more incredible guitarists!

  • Oh you should better write Some of the best guitarists or your personal favourites, you know the list could fit 50, 100, 500 players. People gonna argue with you for having such a narrow view and not regarding all genres equally. And you know everyone has their own top 10 list… Just sayin

  • Thanks for plunking a video link thumbnail over the descriptions of the last five on your list. It's very helpful to not know why you chose them.

  • see, your problem is you titled it BEST guitarists when you should have said "most influential" or "most famous" or something along those lines. when you say BEST, record sales, notoriety, cultural impact and all of that go out the window and it boils down to pure chops. and none of these people would have what it takes to compete in the REAL big leagues. this rubs some people the wrong way.

  • There was never a guitarist like Django Reinhardt, and there never will be one. Maybe a woman? This is just fact. All we hear from him are first or second takes in the studio!
Now listen to his complete work and then tell me!

  • No Joe Pass, greatest jazz player ever. No Bob Brozman greatest slide player ever. We all have lists of the guitarists who shaped us

  • Duane Allman #18? After Prince? Ridiculous. Don't even understand why Prince is on this list. There are other great guitarists missing from this list.
