Blue Bossa – Soloing with Arppeggios – Jazz Guitar lesson with Tabs

Blue Bossa is a great way song start improvising following the harmony because it’s a well known tune that is not too difficult.

In this lesson I’ll present a set of arpeggios, some exercises, target notes and strategies for making solos where you can hear the harmony in the improvisation when you solo over Blue Bossa

It will help you improvise over the chord changes and check out the arpeggios of Blue Bossa. I will also give you some ideas on how to create good solos inside the changes.

You can check out the lesson on improvising on a II V I in C major with arpeggios here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyHXN3Vxhz4

  • Arpeggios and target notes (3rd and 7th) is sometimes enough! If you target the correct note, you may even play out of the scale ????

  • I started guitar 6 years ago and because of you and other amazing content creators, I have been able to rapidly progress, write songs with interesting chord progressions, jam with others, and perform live with my own band. I am so appreciative of these in-depth lessons and the amount of effort you put into the production quality matching the tab with your videos as well.

    Keep it up!

  • Wow! I've tried to solo over the tune many times mostly by ear without thinking what I'm doing and got the lines fairly right according to the chords and melody but never thought of this way of approaching a song. This way of practicing will surely approve my playing. Thank you!????????????❤

  • I’ve just started playing ‘Blue Bossa’… and this is helping me with the business of arpeggios and the idea of soloing – more than other videos I’ve watched in quite a while!

  • Just discovered this one and what a gem. At first I thought I'd never remember all the arpeggios but after much less time than I thought I was playing the basic exercise and it's amazing how as soon as you can do that you can already sometimes make a decent if not very elaborate solo never using anything but notes from the arpeggios. It's so far beyond what I was previously able to do as a guitarist who came up playing in 70s rock cover bands playing solos mostly with just minor pentatonic scales. Thanks so much for you content Jens!

  • I cant do lead, I'm barely average with one major scale. I have failed you Jens, we must drink a beer!????????
What's a pretty sounding 5 to 8 chord song (my fingers are slow). Love your tabs, Thank You for posting, Cheers from Cincinnati Ohio!

  • Hi Jens, please clarify if there is a mistake on the tab at the 3 minute and 49 second mark, because to my eyes the notes in the c minor arpeggio are C and E flat, but on your tab it says to play fret 11 under the E which if actually played would be the F am I missing something?

Using this method of chord tones and arpeggios and focusing on the 3rd of the chord has changed everything for me. I still sound like Sh—. but at least there’s a shred of music there.
    Great lesson. Thank you.
