BOSS DM-2w delay vs BOSS DD-200’s analog delay setting. How close can it sound to the DM-2w ?

The BOSS DM-2w is a classic analog delay pedal, while the BOSS DD-200 is digital pedal with an analog emulation mode.

How close can the DD-200 sound to the DM-2w? With the TONE control turned down, it gets very close especially when mixed with other instruments.

I start with a solo re-amped guitar track going through both pedals and then halfway in the video, that track is mixed with other instruments.

The guitar is a USA Fender Stratocaster, the amp is a 5W Bugera G5 Infinium head going into a 2 x 12 celestion impulse response

  • Idk how the dd 200 is but i have the dd 500. Had a dm3 and now also have a dm 101. The dd500 was my main delay for awhile. The thing it doesn’t do with analog is do the crazy runaway repeat spaceship liftoff. That being said its a great utility pedal

  • Great to-the-point comparison. The DM-2w has a characteristic knock sound at the attack portion of the repeats. But the DD-200's emulation is excellent.

  • I bet the people choosing one or the other couldn't decide in a blind test reliably which was which. No way they could determine in a mix.

  • I have them both. They are soo close, you really can’t tell the difference in a recording or live mix. The response feels exactly the same while playing.

  • The DD-200 isn't exactly the same but it is much closer than I was expecting. I guess the analog delay emulations have really improved over the years.
