Blazing bluegrass picker Trey Hensley explains and demos why he plugs his Martin D-41 into a heavy-metal-ready pedalboard.

In early 2023, PG’s John Bohlinger met up with the duo at 3Sirens Studio in Nashville, where they played some mind-blowing music, and gave a rundown of some of their favorite guitars and gear.

  • Why would you take a amazing acoustic guitar and cover its acoustic tone with effects? Never will understand this. Just play an electric. Makes zero sense. Not against effects, but why on an acoustic?

  • Seeing his Jerry sticker makes me wonder what Jer would do with today’s pedal technology… ????

  • Everyone else is saying positive things so I’ll be honest I love blue grass and martins but most of those tones with those effects sound like crap maybe just some reverb and delay would be better.

  • The metalzone is way more versatile than people give it credit for. It can be used as a boost and even get a fuzz tone out of it when properly dialed in….

  • Not sure what the point of most of those effects (distortion, chorus) were as you've basically taken all the acoustic nature out of the signal at that point and you nights as well use an electric or something like a Godin or Fender Acoustisonic rather then a $5000 Martin dreadnaught

That being, said the Whammy and that auto-wah kind of actually work there
