Boss Katana-100 - Basic Panel Settings - Part 3 - Presence, Master Power Ctrl, Cab Res, Tone Setting

I had a chance to try one. I recommended this product to a friend that wanted to get back into playing but could not necessarily spend $900 in an amp plus another $1,500 on a pedal board. I think what Boss achieved at this point is remarkable. The effect options do sound like the effects they are modeled after. I do have a few issues. In order to get a usable jazz clean you need to crank the power all the way up as well as the volume on the clean channel. Jazz players often like the option of an uncolored preamp such as the acoustic channel but the level on this channel is even lower. We tend to also to lower the guitar’s volume pot so that our humbuckers don’t drive the signal to much. With this amp you have to crank the gain side of the clean far above what I would be comfortable. You get something at the expense of coloring the sound.

The gain channels are nice but all three have a general timbre, they feel more like different gain stages than voices which is how they are presented. In order to get some warmth from the gain channel you need to crank the mids practically to the max.

Upon attempting to do a dual delay set up I notice that no matter what I would do the delays would sync one with the other which kind of beats the point of running separate delays which would be to have them off sync.

I had one of these amps at home for a couple of weeks since a friend asked me to program it for him.

I do think it’s a nice amp and I like the tones I got from it but it makes wonder why are these issues are not addressed in house? someone surely arrived at the same conclusions.
