BOSS WL-20L Wireless Review and 5 Ways to Use it for Guitar

I finally got tired of cables and went wireless! And after over a month of using the BOSS WL-20L wireless guitar system, I’m sharing a complete review with you.

In this review, I’ll show you how to use the BOSS WL-20L (and how to charge it). I’m also going to show the 5 ways I’ve been using the BOSS WL-20L.

There’s only one problem…I don’t know why it took me so long to go wireless!!! Seriously, I’ve been playing guitar since 1989 and have played live at some capacity for the majority of those years!

Be sure to comment to let me know your thoughts on the BOSS WL-20L or what you’re using for your wireless guitar system!

Keep it Metal,
Jason

  • If the active version handles both types of pickup, what’s the point of a passive only version?

  • Re: BOSS WL-20L Wireless . I’ve fitted all my acoustics with Fishman Rare Earth Blends – and then split the individual signals ( ie split the Internal mic and magnetic pickup on a stereo 1/4” Jack ). Is the Boss WL-20L capable of splitting both signals so that each signal can be individually processed at the mixing desk?

  • Hi Jason this is a great review. Many thanks. I am thinking of buying a WL-20. Just to clarify , can I only play an electric guitar with this system? Do I need a WL-20 L for an acoustic? And if I had a WL-20L for an acoustic, can I play an electric with that ? Does that make sense ? I like to play both acoustic and electric onstage so don’t want to have to purchase both? So will one work well for both , in your opinion? Many thanks

  • So I don't get it, I only have passive pickups on my guitars, which model/version is best? the L or Non L?

  • Do you know if you can use 2 receivers for 2 different guitar and then connect them to the 1 transmitter?

I need to switch guitar on stage and might take to long in between songs to switch the receiver to the other guitar.

    Thoughts? Thanks!

  • I have a question concerning battery life. Since this video is 3 years old, I am wondering how the rechargeable batteries have held up? Do they still work? Once charged do you get less than 10 hours of playing time? Thank you .

  • I've played through numerous such systems, and of the dual-plug types I've tried,I would recommend skipping the cheaper XVive and JoyO. They are not reliable and I've had several that have not lasted six months. I also have a mixed bag of these Boss units. Apparently I bought two mixed pairs. I have four plugs total: Two WL-20L, One WL-20L, and one WL-T(2). They seem to be completely interchangeable as long as you pair them by plugging the transmitter into the receiver and remove them after the blinking stops. Then plug in to guitar and board or amp. Incredibly rugged and reliable.Worth every penny. I've had mine for years now after giving up on XVive and JoyO,and am not looking back.

  • I was looking for a little wireless system for home usage and was pretty unsure about what to buy since most of my guitars have EMG active pickups.
I would like to thank you for this video, I decided to purchase this product and I don't have any regret.
Also with scentific review, there's frequencies cut at 20khz . You can't hear any diffrence in the room which is awesome!
    Thanks again ????

  • When I used the WL-20 (for passive pickups) on an active pickup it gave me a lot of feedback. I'm going to get the WL-20 for my active pickups. Thanks for the video

  • Does this work fine with passive pickups or are you forced to use the other model for passive pickups?

  • Salut Petite question est ce que les Ms de latence sont perceptibles et embêtante pour jouer pour le guitariste ?

  • Hi, Jason! I got my WL20 just two days ago and have not found how to power off them, though this function is mentioned in manual? Thanx in advance!

  • Just got the Boss Wl20-L delivered yesterday. It's perfect. I came to your video to see if it's compatible with pedal boards. I had it plugged into a Split Personality pedal and initially wasn't working, and then connected it to the board without the amp switcher and it WORKS FLAWLESSLY. Excellent. Thanks again for your video, it was a great help you showing it on your board connected to the looper. Loving this thing. Cheers

  • At 8:40 you called the receiver, the transmitter (AKA sender). Not a big deal for those of us who know the difference, but some don't, nor would they all use a little understanding of plain language to make the connection based on the common parts of the definitions applicable to many relatable terms, and some freak may even chew you out hard for it and conclude who knows what.????

  • Brooooooo!!!!! Thank you so much for this video. I bought this set on eBay got it for a really good price. Didn’t realize it was the 20L. And I wanted to know if I could use it with passive pick ups I know there is some type of frequency difference between the regular 20 but you just answered my question. God bless you brother.❤❤❤❤lol

  • Is the only difference between the 20 and 20l the 20l's ability to handle active pickups or is there a quality difference or step up between the two?

  • Jason mixes-up the words "Transmitter" and "Receiver" several times in this video. So if you're new to wireless systems, the Transmitter ALWAYS goes into the instrument or item that you want to send to the Receiver. The Receiver always goes into whichever item you want to send the signal into. So, for example, for a guitar into an "amp", you would plug the Transmitter into the guitar then plug the Receiver into the amp, pedalboard, or audio interface on your computer. Thinking of picking up this system myself.
