  • Nice geezer. I always heard boneheads rhythm tone as being more loose on the bass or the distortion was slower if that makes sense

  • Bonehead for the whole song be like:

PEUM PEUM PEU PEU PEUM PE PEUM PEU PEU PEUMM
    ???????? ( That's a sweat, not something else )

Noel for 90% of the song be like:

    Eum eu eu…
    PIM PIM PIMMM…..
    Eu eum eummm…
    PIM PIM PIM
    ????????

  • On a budget but has all Gibson guitars that probably cost like 10,000 pounds altogether

  • Great tutorial mate but i think the little solo licks should be on the bridge pickup, neck sounds off ????

  • hi harry do you use a compressor at all during the intro, because when i do it (with only distortion pedal) the low strings seem to overpower so you cant hear the nigh strings that much. If not how do u get it to sounds like you play it. Thanks

  • Always wondered how to get that twangy tone using a Les Paul with distortion, can't be easy to figure out

  • Would love to hear something similar using a Katana and the tscream ibanez tube screamer software imitation… Can you get the Oasis sound out of a Katana??

  • I heard noel said def maybe. Was after the sound on NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS.

  • the irony being that Oasis wrote and recorded it in the space of about an hour and probably put absolutely no thought into the sound

  • He recorded supersonic and the majority of DM with an epiphone les paul, it was the original 59 Gibson that used on live forever.

  • Well done!! I'm one of the idiots who try to pick holes in other people's accomplishments so forgive me! A few observations

    1. Guitar tone often means attention to frequency. Oasis tone is a perfect example of brash British-voiced mid-leaden tone. You managed to go the opposite way and scoop the mids!

    2. I've never ever heard a tone comparison be light on gain saturation. I've now witnessed another over saturated comparison and become muddy as a result.

However – I could be wrong so keep on trucking!!

  • I love this song and I'm a little obsessed with how they got the sounds for this song. First off I want to say this sounds like is really good and it's pretty close to the recording but here is what I know about the recording of Supersonic….

    – It was a one off track recorded at the Pink Museum, Liverpool.
    – The version that made the album is actually the engineer's second rough mix of the track and it wasn't re-recorded with the rest of the album at Sawmills Studio, Cornwall.
    – Pay no attention to the studio set-up in the Supersonic cover art. That photo was shot at Monnow valley studio during the first attempt to record the album.
    – NOEL'S GUITAR – It's unknown what guitar Noel used but this session was prior to him receiving the two Les Paul's lent to him by Johnny Marr. At the time of the Pink Museum session Noel is known to only have two (decent) guitars in his possession; a early 90's Epiphone Les Paul (seen in the Supersonic video) and a 80's Japanese Epiphone Riviera. Noel most likely used the Epi Les Paul, but he may have used the engineer's Gibson SG as the lead guitars were overdubbed later during the session.
    – NOEL'S LEAD AMP – The Amp Noel used for the Supersonic session was a WEM Dominator III. It was placed in a stone chamber and was double mic'd. A SM57 was used up close and a U87 was used to capture the room ambience. The lead guitar parts were doubled tracked with the guitar being de-tuned slightly on the second pass to help the doubling effect.
    – BONEHEAD's GUITAR – Bonehead used a Gibson SG (exact model unknown) that belonged to engineer Dave Scott.
    – BONEHEAD's AMP – Bonehead used a Marshall JCM 900 belonging to Chris Griffiths of the Real People.
    – GUIGSY's BASS – Fender P-Bass.
    – BASS AMP – Combination of Direct to the desk and a Hi-Watt Head into a Fane Loaded 4×12 cabinet.
    – EFFECTS – No effect pedals were known to have been used but extra reverb for the guitars was provided by a Yamaha Rev7 rack unit during the mixing stage.
    – DESK – 1969 Neve console with three band EQ's (most likely 1073 channel strips or similar) and no automation. In addition to the Rev7 used on the guitars a PCM70 and/or a TC 2290 may have been used.

The info above comes from research and reading various interviews with Noel and Johnny Marr… but most of the info comes from an interview with Dave Scott who recorded the sessions.

    Hope it helps! 😀

  • Super well played congrats… but a the some parts sound nothing like it.
1st – I think the solo section should be with bridge pickup
2nd – Tone should be more overdriven than distorted
    3nd – A little more scooped rhythm
    Nevertheless, great video!

  • I am amazed. The only thing i can tell the differece in tone is the drums and the final solo. Do you have a tab for this song exactly the way you play it? that you could share? i would be very grateful.

  • I've just got a guitar plugged into a 15w practice amp. I've got no clue about effects and pedals. I like to keep it simple until I get better 🙂
