  • Rog is probably more accurately described as a songwriter and composer, much the same as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, or Brian Wilson. None of those guys were extremely technically proficient musicians like Gilmour, Hendrix, SRV, etc but all were extremely skilled songwriters with a keen sense for crafting unforgettable melodies and using interesting orchestration and post-production.

  • Live at pompeii. Why is it suddenly a thing the last few years to pick apart people we knew were quite reasonable musicians and even great ones. Every walk of life now has nore division than the planets ever known. Im taking that clip of experimenting with sounds is from the furry animals grooving with a pict track in which case it was a psychedelic soundscape not a conventional structured song so that is a moot point.

  • Bass solo on Lucifer Sam, A Saucerful of secrets (Ummagumma version), Echoes…he wasn’t a gifted bass player, of course, but his style and songwriting are gorgeous

  • Roger is an insufferable twat…. But he’s a talented twat who wrote some beautiful music.

    Credit where it’s due…

  • It's not about being the "best" at any particular instrument. A friend of mine once told me he was a better guitarist than Carlos Santana, but he'd never be able to come close to Santana's ability to make great music.
