  • Cool vid thanks !
It’s a beautiful bass but would definitely swop out the pups, can anyone recommend some bright sounding pups to fit into this bass ?

  • I love mine, but i do have a few gripes. 1.The sidewinder should be wound the same way as the 60's models were. This one is very anemic. Or, install the Gibson SG bass version, which is an entirely different PU under the same cover. 2.The tuning machines and strings were absolute junk 3.there isn't enough travel in the G-string saddle for proper intonation if you're doing it with a Strobotuner. 4.the blend knob is noisy; I'd much rather have a three-way switch or two volumes.

  • I don’t think this a problem with the bass. I do think the bass player needs more practice.

  • I had a ‘65 Newport bass and I sold it before Reverb at a local shop when I thought I was over the rock ‘n roll lifestyle. It didn’t take me too long to learn that you can get over the lifestyle but never over making music. That Newport was a killer ax! Such a Phat bottom end. The only consolation was that the shop later told me that Aerosmith’s bass player nabbed it when he came through town. I would want that Newport back, but I’m not sold on this one .. even though yellow is rad.

  • Wow, got to say it’s its crap no really it doesn’t look good. It doesn’t sound good. What is the point of it it’s nowhere near any of the opposition and pointless

  • Neck dive???
If it’s not balanced on a strap it’s useless for me and many others but I don’t think you mentioned the issue in this review.

  • At least it has its own character to offer. Doesn't seem that bass shy.
Quality control seems like the issue.

  • I really want to like this more than the Epiphone Embassy, but given that your conclusion is that the bridge pickup is the best part, I keep thinking the now discounted long scale Embassy with two TBird pickups is the better one for me. But no orange and yellow on the Embassy! Speaking of Epiphone, would love to see you review the Hofner-like Allen Woody RumbleKat.

  • Having the arms (and face) of an orangutan, short scale basses feel like ukuleles.

I wish I could get on with them as they're probably easier to sneak onto a plane.

  • I like the look of the bass cool. So do you tune your short scale bass differnt than a regular bass …or the same tuning ?

  • I perfectly agree with your conclusion: with the both pickup configuration it always sounded weird for my taste, the mudbucker always sounds like s**t (for my taste of course, because I also owned an EB0 just to get something short-scaled for playing with while my left hand was suffering of a light form of tendinitis, but I instantly hated it…straight out of the box :D) but the bridge pickup is punchy and clear, surely because it is placed fairly distant from the bridge itself, so it's not very nasal sounding like in some other basses.
I liked the fuzz effect on this bass, by the way. Nice and various display of samples.
    Cheers from Italy.
    Have a nice bassunday!

  • Lobster also hated it. Too bad, because it's going to be the first bass a lot of young folks buy.

  • Dear Jonny, stop making videos of things i don’t need but now want! ????

  • That's a kool sounding bass, big sound for a short scale..the pickups sound good together with tone full on…neat retro looks as well…wish they made a long scale version….

  • I put 700$ in my Newport, ONLY because everything, except the Hardware was terrific, well worth the additional money and effort.
    New bridge (hipshot 2 point)
    New tuners (hipshot ultralites)
    New neck PU (Guild Bisonic)
    3way instead of blend pot
    Professional fretleveling and dressing.

  • Looks can be deceiving. For me, the sound is horrible. Worst sounding bass I’ve ever heard. It looks very nice, but that’s where it ends. I’m glad I watched your review. Thanks.
