  • Now with that featured Charlie Parker lick, that's an example of a tritone substitution, F#7 to F7 to Bbmi or F#7 to B7 to Bbmin. When I speak of chords, this includes all the alterations.

  • I think of the harmony as I-VI-II-V. Bb min, Gmi7b5, Cmi7, F7. Also I play tritone subs. Charlie Parker loves to hit the 6th interval when playing a minor key song.

  • Tina uses D strings on her guitars. For my archtops, I like Elixers 12 gauges. For my other guitars, including my Yamaha SA2200 (have you ever tried it? Its a great guitar with split coils), I just throw on some Ernie Ball 11s since I have the box with several packages.

  • The melody is a little tricky. I found over the years that the 3rd position is the best way to play the head. For some reason. this song gave me a hard time until I was able to visualize two fretboard shapes with my fingers carefully positioned, then I was able to play the head effortlessly. On another point. . . who wouldn't want to hang out with Tina at a coffee shop or something and talk about music then go back and jam with her on some tunes!!! Me! Me! lol!

  • After finding out that some of the studio recordings on records are all fine tuned to the perfection I stopped OCDing myself to perfectly master the nuances of any lick that I'd like under my belt. But hearing a lick that attracts me so much that I'd instantly reach for my gig bag on couch is always a pleasant moment to have.
