  • That Valeton is completely missing all the beautiful harmonics and sizzle. It's muffled and dull. This unit is lacking all the beauty and it will not cut through a band well. You need that sizzle and presence for that. So, I say it's NOT a good value, because it doesn't meet the minimum needs. It's just a toy.

I understand the Anderton's guys sell a ton of these things so they can only say so much but they come close to saying it when they say "it's like someone threw a blanket over it." This is not actually a good modeler. It's a toy with lots of features and specs that sounds rather poor.

  • The Valeton does have a ping-pong stereo analog delay. Its name just happens to be “Tape” instead of “Ping pong”. Confusing, but certainly not a sound that the valeton can’t achieve.

  • In my experience as a live musician for years, I’ve noticed that while cheaper pedals like Valeton can sound surprisingly good at home or in recordings, things change drastically in live situations. That’s where higher-end gear like Neural DSP shows its value. On a loud stage with a full mix, premium pedals usually cut through better, feel more dynamic, and respond in a way that cheaper ones can’t replicate. If you’re just jamming at home, the difference may seem small—but live, it’s a game-changer!

  • Thanks for doing a couple of quick deep dives into the Valeton and trying to make it sound better – it obviously cannot hold it's own against the Neural (though it did pretty damn good at the end there) strange it's SO dark head-to-head w/ the default settings – I wonder how the GP200 would hold up in an identical cage match ???

  • Having had this Valeton and most of the top units like Kemper Stage and FM3, I can say this unit, and other budget offerings like POD Go are nowhere near the A-Tier on tones. Not even close. Love these guys, but this comparison is a joke.

  • @13:30 Yes, buddy! Cab sims play a very important role there, if they aren't both running through the same cab sim, then it's very difficult to say that one is "darker" than the other.

  • I have a gp200, been using it for gigging and practice.
It's transparent, i run 4 guitars through it and they retain their unique tones.
The cabs are good, but, not great. They're mid rangey sharp, treble uncomfortable, and bass slodgey.
I've put in custom ir and blended my own, and it radically changed the tones.
The gp200 is totally worth it. It's good. And sounds better to me than line6 products.
    There ya go

  • Nice video! I thought the Valeton Vox sounded more like a real Vox amp myself.

  • In the world of guitar, pro audio, recording, etc, this is a night and day difference. The Quad Cortex isn't just a little better. It's WAY better on every setting….and that's noy even factoring the better features of the QC. In the world of audio, most pros or people who take this stuff seriously will gladly spend thousands for a SLIGHT increase in overall sound quality (subjectivity being what it is). This is not slight at all. The Valeton is great "for the money", but the QC is objectively better and worth every penny IMHO.

  • While talking about a "small" difference (its not, but lets pretend that it is) you said: "its hard to argue youd pay 6 times as much for this". Let's put it this way. There is a 2% difference between a monkey DNA and a Human DNA. 2% might not sound like a lot. But it is for professional players. And it was more than 2%. Probably 10 or 15%

  • The Valeton didn't seem to have the most accurate emulations, but I'd have to argue that they both sounded equally good to me. The Valeton seems like it could be dialed in to get just about any sound with a few tweaks, even if it needed to be EQed slightly and set on a different cabinet.

I've listened to a lot of really bad amp sims, and the valeton has really impressed me from what I've seen so far. Some of the older ones (such as Peavy Vyper modeling amps or older-generation Boss COSM products) tried a little too hard to sound exactly like the amp they were simulating, but introduced a lot of harsh digital noise into the sound that became apparent on very low gain or very high gain. The valeton doesn't seem to have this problem as far as I can tell. The dynamics sound great, it sounds premium here despite its very low price tag.

I'm really glad that this is the case, because on a cheaper device where the the technology is probably a bit more primitive, I'd much rather it sound good than sound exact (the differences are easy enough to dial in).

  • The ToneX has pretty much made the Quad Cortex obsolete with regard to captures & of course so many ppl; have captured amps there is little point in adding another Mashall Plexi etc to the library is there. The Valeton allows 3rd party IR's to be loaded. The real problem is choice, both units provide enough sounds in there to suit most ppl – thre is always going to be some who want amps, pedals but of course more limited sound options. The Valeton offers massive amounts of high quality sounds for the price, the Quad Cortex offers extra features but is not as good value & looks well overpriced for what it does offer. However if money is no object then ppl will pay the extra won't they.

  • i use a 2 amp set up , can anyone recommend a modeler that can send 2 separate signals to my interface for recording or to the pa if playing live ? to put it simply i have 1 amp cleaner but flooded with reverb as a cushion to blend with my main signal that has less reverb , my delays and a thicker tone .. would need something with a boost to increase heaviness but i would always have both signals running .. looking to do some gigs but i cant be bothered with lugging 2 valve amps and a pedal board these days and i may be going to 1 man and laptop route so it would be nice to just have a laptop then a modeler i can easily transport…any ideas anyone? thanks ..nux amp academy looks pretty good but its not got independant channels even though its stereo if im correct ?

  • I’m a QC fan boy, but! Wow!! Surprisingly! The valeton sounds
Equal or if not better than the QC. And it’s way cheaper. All that money spent for the QC and here comes a $300 valeton beats its sound.

  • I didn't see it in the video, but it would have been very beniificial I think to demonstrate how you stitch through the different settings/patches in a live situation. I'm assuming on the Neutral DSP you can program the four buttons on the bottom row, however it appears that on the Valeton you' have to use the Tap/scroll foot switch to change patches in a live situation.

  • I just bought one of these, based off this video, and I have to say, the GP-200 is complete gash, it's utter shite. It suffers from the same problem as the old Line6 stuff, it has loads of rasp for big chords, but the gain just falls away when playing single note lines, alot of the amps don't sound like they are meant to, I have owned a 5150, and this sounds nothing like it. The expression pedal is noisy, and there a few other gripes, i bought this to replace a Pod 2.0 I have been using for years, after five hours, the GP200 is boxed, and the Pod is back on again. Moral of the story, if you want good effects, the bottom line is Boss, not this dogshit.

  • The QC just sounds… "righter". ????Hard to put into words. Even though I think the GP 200 is amazing and would serve a guitarist FAR beyond their beginner stage. I think it’s pretty good – and not just for the price.
The Vox example though really made me lust after the QC more than I wanted to.

  • With more affordable amp emulators, I often leave off the cabinets which sometimes give it that “someone put a blanket over it” effect. Whatever the unit, in the end it’s about dialing in some sounds you like. Unless of course you want to be the most accurate sounding cover band on the planet.
