BassBass Guitar

Cheapest bass guitar on eBay ($55) unboxing and review!

I bought an unbranded bass guitar for $55 on eBay. Is it any good? Is it functional or a pile of splinters and metal?

2022 UPDATE:
These still appear to be on eBay, at a slightly higher price of $75 (yay inflation!).
eBay listings don’t last forever, so probably should just search for something like this:
“New 5 Color 4 Strings Fire Style Electric Bass Guitar”

Also: I have moved across the country and this bass has survived being packed and shipped just fine. It just sits there ready to use on my rack of guitars!

Original listing is sold out, this is the same bass but with gig bag and extras for a tiny bit more:

  • FYI: I recently purchased one of these along with the Jazz Bass version. For those familiar with Glarry, these are Glarry basses without the name on the headstock. In the two years since this video was posted, the price has gone up. While the Glarrys go for $109.99, you can usually find one of these unbranded versions on eBay for around $75. The tone is decent and they both play well. The headstock shape has also changed. All in all, for less than $100, you really can't go wrong.

  • I just got one today (black version). Price was $58 and change. I've gotta say, while I'm not blown away by it, I was very pleasantly surprised. It definitely has that cheap instrument look and feel, but the main thing is: it PLAYS! It arrived out of tune, of course, and with a very high action, but once I dropped the strings a couple mm and tuned it up, I found that the intonation was spot on, at least according to my clip-on Fishman tuner. I had to chuckle at that, as I've had basses that cost way more that I had to set the intonation on right out of the box. I'm going to play it for a while, and assuming it holds up, probably upgrade the tuning machines, pups, and pots/knobs in the future. We shall see.
