I had taught myself to slap…kinda…on a 4-string bass. I had quit playing for quite some time and definitely lost my touch. I then bought a 5-string Ibanez and just cannot get back into a slap/pop groove. Do you find it more difficult to slap on a 5-string bass?

Incorrect. If you listen to the track closely, you'll hear that he doesn't remove his first finger when playing C and G# chords. Listen to the song carefully

Hey Mark, great stuff!
I think you forgot that simple transition where Flea plays G# – C instead of Bb – C in between that riff. I think it occurs 2-3 times within the entire song. Could be confusing for some people when they actually play it 😉
