David Gilmour’s blues-rock phrasing techniques lesson
Guitarist Magazine’s expert tutor Richard Barrett takes a deep dive into the soaring blues-rock soloing of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. Using a simple 4-chord progression Richard, author of Guitarist Magazine’s monthly blues lesson ‘Blues Headlines’ walks you through how to nail the Pink Floyd guitarist’s go-to moves for slow, blues-infused soloing in a rock setting.

Never mind the phrasing how you getting that tone lol
Brilliant… wish there were more details on how to play the licks for beginners..
Well done! Thanks ????
Beautiful Gilmour !
Please tell me where do i find the c sharp backing track or the tab so i know the chords to play along with.
Should add that Gilmour often plays in Dorian (like the licks here which contain the major 6th on a minor pentatonic), adds to his sound
is there a way to access this backing track to play along to ?
I would love to see more vids by Richard Barrett. Excellent teaching and playing!
Great tone and great lesson. Very well explained, de-mystifying Gilmour's technique to make us mere mortals feel that we can obtain something very near it. Fantastic! Thank you. (already subscribed)
The trick is the tone the rest is pretty easy stuff but somehow he makes a mountain out of a mole hill with sweet n sour
Gold ! Absolutely great details to be aware of and makes all the difference in the world!
This is absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for this video – Gilmore is my greatest inspiration and you have begun to unlock for me the techniques behind his playing. One hundred thanks!!
Wow this is an incredible lesson. Love the attention to detail.
Very well done, great effort!
We want more Richard based content….now!
Sounds great . He also uses the 9th of the scale with a rake a lot. And his vibrato bar work.
So elegant
To echo several comments I think Richard is a brilliant and humble musician with incredible insight to breaking down how different guitarist's achieve their specific phrasing and tone. These are my favorite lessons on youtube. I learn something from every one that he does.
Great Richard – great stuff again
Great ????
Damn – you Nailed Gilmour's style & sound! Nicely done, Sir.

Your playing is the closest sounding to Gilmour that I’ve heard yet, and I’ve been a Gilmour fan since the beginning.
Those EMG pickups sound great
What a thoughtful and well delivered instruction on an all time favourite tune of mine.
Thank you Richard ????
Thank you!
Such a brilliant and humble musician. Always a privilege to learn from him.
Richard and David Gilmour – two of my all-time favorite guitar players! I already have DG’s next recording release on pre-order! Great episode, Richard (still waiting for more of those John Lee Hooker vamps)! ????????????
Great explanation and demonstration. You really did nail it. Wonderful. Thank you.
Where can I get the backing track to practice though
Perfect !
Thats a wonderful guitar sound… Phew!
Make a lesson on how David Gilmour bends the major 2nd or 9th licks.
Really articulate playing Richard. You're very good ???? Thanks for the lesson. Awesome tone too.
Nailed it! ????????
Great stuff Sounds soooo cool!!!!!
Besides your tasteful and great playing and feel, I love your humor, (blind as a bat these days ????). And of course in our age we all fight the same problems. A lot to learn here, thank you very much!
