  • Thanks for this discussion. I have the Maschine+ but have been considering picking up an MPC Live. I had an MPC-ONE when it first came out and didn’t like the work flow. The Maschine is much simpler to get going, not a lot of pages to get what I want.
But this discussion kinda sealed the deal. No need for an MPC. I can use the MPC software in Maschine ???? whew???? honestly, I’m satisfied with the 3.0 update.

  • It’s really disappointing that it’s almost 2025 and these new MPC’s still can’t rock at anything but 44.1khz unless they are being used as a plugin in another DAW.. they need to fix this ish..

  • Hey, my brother. Look into the Switch Witch. It's a speaker switcher. That's what I use.

  • I think the vintage modes in the MPC need to be removed and replaced with something more useful. They are very deceiving.

  • I personally still have my MacBook pro from 2011 that I bought brand new from guitar center. Maxed out the ram to 16gh back then. Years later I replaced the hard drive to a 2tb ssd. I still run mac os 10.7.5 on 1tb of that drive to run pro tools 9 with waves 9 plugins, I run mac os sierra on the other 1 tb to run newer plugins and moc software. I aslo have an extenal 1 tb hard drive that runs mac sonoma for the newer stuff. If it aint broke dont fix it. My same macbook has been running fine for years and still going till this day.

  • I ask myself if I got the right standalone device every day haha.

Personally I don't have any issue with the modern MPCs when it comes to sound quality, although I don't deny there is a difference in the subtleties in character between old and new MPCs. I am able to get the sound characteristics that I want from the MPC One Plus with just a little bit of mixing. At the end of the day, good sound quality doesn't fix a lack of skill in musicianship and I think great musicianship shines through shortcomings in sound quality. This is why "lofi" is still a likeable sound if the music is good.

If anything I have more gripes with some workflow limitation of MPC (although I am overall happy with it). I'd want more ability for modulation of synth parameters that aren't tied solely to automation. Being able to cross modulate additional LFOs to effects parameters would be great. I make synth/keys/piano based hip-hop and electronic music, so I play all of my own instruments, but I do a lot of resampling of what I play on keys and mangle it as samples to create arrangement. I'd like to try a Push 3 some day, which has better sound design capabilities, although MPC still has a more complete standalone experience.

  • Native Instruments has better emulations than Akai. You dont need Machine to get there. Just use the MPC X as controller with Battery 4 as a plugin.

  • Akai knew exactly who they were selling these new MPC's to the Doc Brown 1.21Gigawatts set who are more about the so called bells and whistles over sound quality if they cared about what the consumer really wanted they could of easily offered the new MPC's with upgradable options which companies like Black Lion easily offer but they didn't because their competing against Roland & Teenage Engineering who are putting out product at a way lower point of entry so for Akai now it's shifting to selling software plugins and sound packs .

  • I’ve tried the New MPCs and I don’t like the time it takes to create a Track Versus Machine I can make Tons of Beats in less than a hour drag and drop the stems into Reason or FL and Finish the Game????

  • At the end of the day, I remember people saying the MPC 3000 sounds better than the 2000 but it was the 2000 series that has the most professional credits of any MPC of all time. Many of our favorite groups across multiple genres were made with those babies despite not having the perceived superior sound. When it's all said and done, which ever device you use, there will be compromises. With most compromises, your time, skill level, other devices or plugins will have to help you overcome any limitations these devices bring. The end game, is how much time, effort or resources you will have to give in order to achieve the outcome you want. Compromises in sound you can overcome with a combination of time, skill and plugins for the most part. Compromises in hardware design, you may be able to overcome with the help of other devices. Compromises in software design, you will have to use other methods or plugins to help you reach your goal. You as the user, has to figure out where you're willing to invest despite the compromises of any device you pick. Unless a device is totally obsolete in your work chain, there is a road map to your desired destination. I happen to own The One, The X and the MK3. I like them all for different reasons. I also love the mixing process and am venturing into sound design. If any of these devices prevented me from achieving my desired goals I would not own them. Brother Altruest. I really appreciate what you are doing here. Thanks for making time to offer us perspective on what we all love doing so much. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
